confirming oil ring control failure

Hey guys, I read a lot about this issue from some members and it seems to point thays were I'm heading but I just want ti make sure. When it gets cold, my car starts to shoot massive amounts of heavy white smoke, blueish from afar and it smells like fuel and oil mix. Its alot of smoke to cover a house and more. I put in oil around 400 miles before this happened and when I started the car, the oil guage popped up and when u looked it had litle oil so I filled it up again. It shoots smoke for around 6-10 mins and then stops. This is the 6th time this happened since it started getting cold in nj. It has check engine codes but that's due cause of the decat. What do you think

Mods are hks catback, rb nonresonated midpipe, new spark plugs and cobb accessport stage 1 map.

are you positive you are not overfilling it with oil ?

Is your water level stable ?

Is this mostly or exclusively after starting the engine cold? Or just in general?

This is only when I start the engine and the engine is cold. Anytime after that its fine and my water level is stable, my coolant is leveled and it can't be overfilling since I went to check the oil it was at the very bottom, I filled it back to the middle and the oil light went away

Yeah, that is almost exactly the same symptoms that I dealt with for around 40,000 miles after my cat failure at 55k but before my engine finally failed a compression test at 96k. I'd start up the car, and if I let it idle completely warm, just slow wisps of smoke from the tail pipe for a while, but nothing else. If I start it up and immediately started driving it, even gently, then at about the same point away from the house I'd leave a massive cloud of white/blue smoke. Typically it was in the same intersection about half a mile from my house on the way to the highway.

Test the coolant for combustion gasses, pressure test the cooling system, send an oil sample out for testing. I bet that you have a minor leak/failure with a coolant seal and oil control system.

Also after it stops when I drive I can see blue smoke in the air as well for a while like 3-5 mins after the warm uo and then stops.

Ah okay. Will do thanks. I was just playing to let the motor die on its own and then buy another one for around 1200 and then learn to rebuild one with this one.

Oh forgot to mention the car has 84k miles

You might have a bigger failure than I did, since it sounds like there is more smoke and takes longer to clear, but otherwise the same.

Could it be since there's no cat, there is more smoke because of this or its just draining a large amounts of more oil.

A cat on mine with that problem made it fade a bit, but not go away. I ran catless most of the time till the engine failed, and the last time it did it was on the way to the dealer for the engine replacement. Didn't do it with or without a cat on the reman.

I think the only involvement that a cat had was when the original cat clogged and caused the damage in the first place. That engine never felt the same again, plus all the smoke.

In my case, it was the clogged cat that did the damage. I imagine that there are other methods that cause the same failure.

True, I guess since the cat was clogged, it overheated the engine a little bit than before which may have warped the rings since its rubber causing the failure. Well thanks RIWWP. I appreciate the help you given me so far for any issues I had.

For mine, i think it was more that the high pressure exhaust gas was having trouble being vented from the engine, as there was high pressure gas built up in the header due to the clogged cat. The pressure build up stressed seals and rings all around, just enough to create a failure point.

Localized overheating is entirely possible as well. I don't actually know what happened, just theories.

does it run like *** for a minute or 2 or completely normal when cold? if it's coolant related you will have misfires present until the coolant is evacuated from the engine.

Well when I first start the car and when the smoke comes out I usually don't drove rhe car and I let the smoke do its job, however when it shoots the smoke there are times where the rpms drop and go up like it chokes and then starts to spill more smoke.
