Angry PISSED! Brand new engine, coils, plugs, STILL have power loss!

I am FURIOUS. I brought my 2006 AT Rx-8 into the dealership last week because I was experiencing engine power loss. Usually at stop lights, or when I hit the gas for the first time after starting the car.

I was told that the coils were probably bad (made sense, the car's at about 53k miles). While they were at it though, they replaced the entire engine (hooray, right?), coils, spark plugs and wires, as well as my engine and transmission mounts.

Told me it was great now. Running like a dream.

Well--it was, until about 24 hours later. I just started it up, hit the gas, DEAD. I was able to start it back up again, got it to about 2000 RPM, and then again, power loss, car dead.

With new everything, wtf could possibly be doing this? Please, not even the dealership is diagnosing it right.

what do you mean by power loss? Low rough idle? Stalling?

why are you hitting the gas after you start the car? how much did you rev it up to?

New engines need to be broken in you cant just whomp on them

Please use the search button and if you have any more questions after you searched post in this thread again.

Both, low rough idle which usually leads to stalling.

I don't mean that I'm slamming the gas pedal after starting the car. I mean that it starts fine, it doesn't die until I press on the gas to move forward.

I have searched the forums and found suggestions saying that it's the coils, engine, etc. But all of these are new. Checked everything else. No codes being thrown, battery's fine.

Maybe the cat?

Since the car was working fine before it started being a pain again I would double check both sides of the spark plug wires to make sure they are properly seated. If that doesn't do it I would contact the dealer and make them tow it back to them at their expense.

The dealer will have to stand behind this. Have them hook it back.

As for the key question, search newbie troll. Don't go f-cking up someone else's thread because you see people actively discussing things...idiot.

What about a fuel pump issue? if the motor is new everything is new, that is what i would look at. I dont see the cat doing this, but maybe. fuel filter, bad gas, all could be the issues. try going that route

These are all of the causes of "power loss" I could come up with. If anyone has any to add, feel free, but as you can see, not all of these points have been addressed, only the common ones.

- Coil failure
- Plug failure
- Plug wire failure
- Cat failure
- Compression loss
- Dirty MAF
- O2 sensor failure
- Fuel Filter clogged
- Fuel pump failure
- Battery terminals corroded
- Air filter clogged
- Fuel injectors clogged
- Fuel injectors leaking
- E-shaft sensor misaligned
- Fuel trims not set/reset
- Incorrect MAF scaling
- Carbon Buildup
- SSV failure
- Coolant seal failure
- Mental problems (including faulty memory and inability to drive)

I actually put these as a custom list in a "ask the black ball" app on my android phone for humor value.

id like to know how they

1. determined the engine was bad
2. Got the OK to swap it from Mazda
3. Ordered and received a new engine
4. swapped the engine
5. gave it back to the customer

all in 1 week. that is stretching it.

False- where are you located? you are certain they swapped the engine? when it died this time were you able to start it right back up? how much fuel do you have? did you have to fill it after getting it back or was it already filled by the dealership?

^....good questions!

If true...really does need to go back to the dealer ASAP.

Wonder if it could be a simple as the TPS?

If it truly is a "new" engine, I guess I would most likely suspect plug wires not seated correctly first? We know that front one tends to be the one that is loose or comes off. Really doubt this is anm issue of it still learning the fuel trims, but I guess a reset couldn't hurt right?

I'd check the simple stuff that RIWWP listed first, then head back immediately.

So this is silly, but I wanna ask the OP three questions(I just want to be clear, I know they may be redundant) and I'd still like to see him answer Zoom's as well.

1.) So.............after the engine swap, would you say the car is acting pretty much the same as it was?

2.) Idle is fine after start-up(no matter how long) until you start to apply throttle?

3.) No CEL is thrown?

It sounds like he is exaggerating to me. No new engine just plugs and coils.

So not it's a dead CAT or fuel pump.

I bet it's the CAT. Cat has to be removed to look inside.
