I bet that abnormally high number is a typo. It happens. I'd assume it's a 7.3.

Yeah My buddy is a Mazda tech, the couple of times he did it, he hooked the tester up VIA USB, the system them takes the results, "normalizes" (changes them, not sure exactly what it is doing just assuming) them, and then you print them out. They did differ from the Foxed calculator as well, but not by a significant amount. If they are writing them down then they are not doing it right. My other buddy went thru the same thing up in Austin, he had to bring the service manual in and show the service manager because they were arguing with him about how it should be done. Not only were they just jotting the numbers down, they were testing his car cold. His car was out of warranty and he was paying for the test.

Well now I smell gas when I start the car or am driving and come to a complete stop at a set of light. So I'll be headed back to the dealer. So I will see what they say about having the test results normalized properly. Because like your friend this is a test I am paying for, with my warranty already having expired on the engine.

This is dated and may not be current to the latest service procedures but it gives you an idea.

Engine---> Mechanical -------->Compression Inspection
