complete loss of power 7-8k

hey joined the forums to see if could get help, im a 2 week owner of a 2004 rx8 an decided to push it after first week, got goin real nice an hit 7k rpm an power just cut like hit rev limiter, engine continued to rev to 8k then power picked right back up...

took back to mazda since the dodge dealer that i purchased car from just gave me a ridiculous runaround...got plugs an coils replaced first week, they then had to go to mazda japan for further diagnostics...

2nd week in shop they did driving test w/laptop hooked up and found interruption to throttle body, waiting till this thurs. to find result on new throttle body and see what happens...no cels or other notice of problems other than shift beep after power kicked back up at 8.2k

hopin that someone else may have a good idea as to what may be goin on

oh and compression they said was perfect, brand new oil an filter, 91 octane chevron gas, nothing other than my girlfriend in car, car warmed up, nice flat road, outside temp 35f. thanks guys! car beat a fully built rsx-s first night i had it too!!!

time frames so long since had to wait for dodge dealership to submit warranty paperwork so mazda guys would get paid!

Power loss at high RPMs usually points towards a clogged catalytic converter.

Or bad spark plugs and coils
Armin had a clogged/bad catalytic converter aka cat and could not rev pass 4k rpms.
Neil had bad coils and spark plugs: had high rpm brake up stutter.

Sounds like SSV valve is sticking if you still have a problem.
Most likely the coils did the trick.

already brand new coils an plugs, ssv tested an working perfectly, mazda tech nodded thoughtfully when brought up cat...they are waiting for dodge dealer ok again while i wait for warranty to go into effect so i can get away from them...they said mazda japan told them next step was replace throttle body an go from there, metering pump already reset an working properly, starting to think my mazda didnt like being around the dodges an developed a nervous twitch...

Is your car used? how many miles on the clutch? could have slipped? has it done this again? or was this a one time thing?

every single time hit that rev point, repeated cuz thought was low on gas, filled up still happening, happened on the dot 5x w/dealer tech testing, used car, 3rd owner, 44k miles on chassis an motor...dont think slipping clutch since engages properly every time i race or do anything...

Damn I was going to say Coils, Plugs, and wires. I had the same exact problem, but as soon as I changed those items the car was back in perfect condition.

Don't overlook the fuel pump, they can prematurely fail and struggle to deliver fuel at that high of an rpm.
