Exclamation Clutch Problem....plz help guys...new to rotary's

okay guys, here's the scoop. I was driving on the autobahn yesterday at about 170 kliks, went to shift to 4th n accidently pulled it to 2nd..... now i didn't pull it all the way in gear nor did i let out the clutch, just pulled it into 2nd and put pressure on the shifter. heard the tranny/clutch spool up (not too familiar with transmissions and/or clutches so not sure which one winds up for alignment) and when it got to spinnin REALLY fast, at the top of the whine, i felt a slight pop in the clutch pedal. it still drives fine while it's in gear, but, the clutch pedal has less movement (or at least feels really weird) and it has a smoother time shifting to gears when i let out the clutch, but no slipping in gears.

now if i rev high and dump the clutch it'll still spin em so not sure if the clutch went out. no clutch smell either after driving/shifting. when i have it in first at a dead stop, i'll let out the clutch slowly (w/o givin gas) and instead of pullin like it should to take off, it bogs down really bad til it almost dies. gotta give it more gas than normal to take off in first/reverse. when shifting gears at higher speeds, during normal shifting, i can dump the clutch w/o revvin and it takes longer to engage than normal. feels like an automatic shifting almost (kinda nice while shifting cuz it's normally a rougher shift than most cars but not only do i want the quick get up but i also know somethings wrong so it almost makes me wanna cry).

been almost obsessed with the rotarys since i first started learnin about cars n i finally got this about 2 months ago. if anyone can help me figure this out AS SOON AS POSSIBLE it'd be GREATLY APPRECIATED.....would like to see if its a bad clutch before i go n buy a new stage 3.

Ohhhh noes! This doesn't sound good...

I'd bet you've (at least) buggered up (overspeed) the synchros. Change the fluid asap, and check for metallic bits. If you're under warranty, then let your conscience be your guide, but change the fluid anyway.

Good luck.

170 clicks is about 105mph... i managed to accidentally shift from 3rd to 2nd at about 95mph thousands of miles ago. i actually engaged the 2nd gear an released the pedal. my gauge cluster lit up like a christmas tree and the TCS/DCS/ABS went ape **** trying to keep me on the road.

shortly after i drained the tranny fluid which had a moderate amount of shavings in it, but not as much as i expected. i've never experienced any issues with my tranny or clutch. i now have 35K miles

thanx

thanx guys for the quick responses. as i said before, i didn't FULLY engage the gear, just applied pressure on the shifter to the point that it sped up the synchros? i'm no longer under warrenty cuz i'm in europe and it's a US spec car. military really %&(#'s us some times with warrenty's n wut not. well anyway. i'll try changing the clutch fluid n all that see if i find anything. lemme know of anything i might have to do myself since there is no warrenty left but a REALLY good "DO-IT-YOURSELF" shop on base here. thanx in advance all

Thirstylemur.

Note that I think you should change the Transmission Fluid. In re-reading my post, I can see where I was unclear.

The trans fluid change is a really simple thing. There is a good DIY thread HERE.

The only PITA is pumping the fluid from the bottle up into the trans' fill hole. I'm sure that there is something at your DIY are that will work for that. If not, you can remove the shifter from inside the car and carefully fill from the top (do NOT spill any - the smell will last for months).

If the trans fluid has metallic particles in it, you may want to change, drive for a couple of days, and change again to thoroughly flush out any particles. I think the drain plug is magnetic, as well. There is a bunch of discussion on which MT fluid to use. I like REDLINE - but others have strong opinions for other brands.

Bleeding the clutch isn't a bad idea either, also a really straightforward process.

I hope that this is more clear, and I've got my fingers crossed that no harm was done to the trans.

ya i figured u meant tranny fluid. not sure why i said clutch fluid. wasn't thinkin when i typed, wz kinda late n all. just changed the tranny fluid today either way n found not that large of a deposit of metalic shards in the drain plug. just found out today there was even a mag on the plug, where as appearantly u already knew that. u guys will have to excuse my ignorance. i can rebuild a 4-8 cylinder motar, do anything with suspension/brakes, even know my way around the electronics n wut not (stereos not ems) but when it comes to clutch's/tranny's i'm a complete retard. n now that i have an unfamiliar type of motor that runs almost entirely on computers (meaning everything except the spinny triangle thing in the middle of the circle thingy), i pretty much working in complete unfamiliar territory. but i appreciate all the help from u guys. now plz know i'm not a retard when it comes to cars, just ignorant to to some things.

but like i said earlier. just changed the tranny fluid, filled it with Royal Purple, heard a lotta good things about them so i had to try it out. i'm now running Royal Purple 5w20 and RP 75w90. just ordered my Spec Stage 3 Clutch a few min ago so waitin on that to get in. got a tuner buddy wantin to help me work on this new toy. first part of beefin this car up so i'm really excited. bought a stage 3 cuz i plan on havin a lotta hp outta this power house so i want the clutch to be ready to handle it.
