Ever since temperatures have been above 90+ degrees in PHX my car has had similar problems. After being on the freeway for 15 miles or so, with the AC on, my car losses power, to the point were I have had to pull off the freeway. I have had it in two dealerships a total of three times and the last time I left it for 5 days while I was on vacation and they put 350+ miles on it (they claim only 150 miles). The problem still exists and they say there is nothing they can do about it until Mazda comes out with a PCM update in a couple of months. That is insane. Am I supposed to just grin and bare it?

This car has been nothing but problems. It has 18,000 miles on it, every time I take it in for an oil change I have to point out an issue or two that needs to be fixed, at 10,000 miles it had to have a new engine and new cat due to a bad seal, and I have 11 days in a rental car use because of the dealership having my car.

That all being said I love my car when it works, but because of all the problems with it I doubt that I will buy another Mazda again.

At this point I am getting ready to evoke the lemon law, but I doubt I will have much success without hiring a lawyer.


Does anyone have any experience dealing with Mazda about a lemon?

I almost had to use the Lemon Law on a Saturn back in 2000. The plan I was using was to get a copy of the exact law for my state. The law has pretty specific criteria. I would then get together copies of the service tickets that I believed demonstrated that the lemon law criteria had been exceeded. I was then going to sit down with the dealership manager to deliver a letter, with attached supporting documentation, requesting the car be swapped under the lemon law.

However, I never had to use it. The service manager called me first suggesting a swap before I ever got started. Can't beat Saturn service.

is your car and AT? if so request a new engine. that is what they are doing for people who have this problem with AT cars right now instead of waiting for the PCM fix. search "lubbock" and you will find several posts about this. they are definetly worth reading. good luck.

No, my car is a 6 speed and it has a new engine that was put in at 10000 miles for a different issue.

My car was and is still out - and its been over 50 days. Kansas Lemon laws state I have to give the dealer 10 times to fix the problem. Lets see, I am on my third engine and they still can't get it right.

Have you contacted Mazda North America Operations yet? The owners manual says to contact them by certified mail when the problem has not been fixed after a reasonable number of visits.

That is what I am going to try next, and if that doesn't work (and I hate to do this) I am going to contact a lawyer.

10 times sounds ridiculous, here in CA dealers are allowed to fix the problem on three occassions.

I'm no lawyer, but I believe it's 4X for the same problem within the first 2yr/24K mi in Arizona. I searched google, because I thought I may be headed down this road myself.
