8 or more cranks to start

everymorning when i turn the car on and throughout the entire day my car takes several cranks to start that it makes all my passangers think my car isnt gonna start thats how bad it is...

I thought it was because of the cold weather since it got worse but my car is garage parked and still does it even when inside is around 70 degree..

I toook it in to the dealer to get it checked and they said it was my batter but my battery was purchased this spring.. I took it in the get tested.. and it did not drop below 11.1 volts of charge..
Its a good battery!
but the dealership said that it was my battery that causes it to do this.. and i beleive its the starter not the battery.. but hey what do i know i use 5w-30 oil

My coils and spark plugs are in pefrect working condition.. I have Mazsport coils... and they are in top shape as well.

should i take it to another dealership or what?? any recommendations?

oh BTW my car has done this since NEW! but now that its getting up in the mileage its getting worse..

49K miles
2005 model I have the latest flash as well

Battery, starter, or a new engine. I'd start with the first 2.

A rotary that has problems starting is never a good sign, but if its an 04 without the recalls done to it there is a good chance you have the old starter.

The old starter sucked at starting cars, but I believe it weighed less.

My '05, late March build, came with the new starter. If yours is an earlier build it may very well be you need the new starter. There's a TSB for it ("engine cranks but won't start").

I'm too lazy to look up the TSB number, as this has been discussed here many times already.

Dare I say it ..... Search

OK PEOPLE!!!!!!

came in to a new dealership and so far i am impressed!!! great friendly service and fast!!!! i think i might find a new home for my new mazda purchases!!!!!!! thats if the new camaro doesnt come and ****** me away!!!

anyways they said i have a low capacity starter.. and the msp16 was not done to my car... which the other dealership had told me they had done it so... man this really agitates me..

AND MY MOTOR MOUNTS ARE BAD!!!!!
funny thing is the other dealership never told me about this.. and this new dealership told me that as soon as he moved it he could feel it shaking.. soo no wonder it was vibrating.. i always thought it was due to my lighter flywheel and never put any attention to it.

Alright, then I'll stop being lazy. TSB 01-004/05 dtd 12/1/2005 "Engine cranks no start"

"If [starter] label indicates N3H1, replace starter. ... if label indicates N3H1A or later" ... you have the latest starter.

ahhhh thanks!!! i just got my car back and man the big difference!!!!! it start with 2 cranks of less and sounds like a rc car when its cranking!!!!

and my new motor mounts! omg!!! feels like when i first got the car sooooo smoooooth!

onne thing i did notice is that once i got the MSP16 flash today the car feeel much peppier on mid range 3-5K rpm the AFr is like 13.5 in that range and is 11.1 after 7K rpm or so..

on the MM map It is 14.5-14.9 around 3-5K rpm and 12's around 6K rpms and up...

but why does the Stock map feel much peppier on low end??? hmm i guess this is another thread! is hall start it!

Mine just started taking five to seven turnovers to start. The battery is good and the starter turns over quickly. This started when the weather turned cooler in South Florida this week. Low in the 50's high in the low 70's. Runs normal, once started??????

2004. almost 60,000 miles. The engine runs smooth when warmed up. I need to take it in for service. Might need plugs etc. I even had a thought it might be the fuel filter. I ahve a K&N drop in air filter which is good. This started when the weather turned cooler in Miami but that may just be a coincindence.

ohh and check your battery that can also affect it.

I clean my plugs ever oil change with some sea foam i saturate them and thent he carbon just cracks and falls off.

I have the mazsport coils which have also helped. mine were still working at 45K miles

I have about 38,000 miles on my re-built motor. They replaced the starter with the re-build which turns over quicker than the original. I have not done anything other than change the oil and clean my K&N drop in air filter. I have not serviced or changed my plugs or coils. The car runs like stink once out of lower RPM's, Ideles okay, just that lag in starting and at low rpms.
Thx
