Got the Beck Arnley 2kW starter today... swapped it in, and I've performed 6 hot starts today since I swapped in the new starter w/ ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUES! = SUCCESS... so for future reference, if you have the N3H1 starter still (don't know why after 7yrs anyone would - but the previous owner of mine did (???)...) consider a swap to a higher powered starter if you're having problems w/ hot-starts...

Thanks again for the help and the video - it helped a lot

2005 RX-8 Shinka 50k miles
Upgraded to 5pin coil lead ignition system same coil used in same year hummer.

Hot start issues and occasional hesitation around 4k-5k rpm. When hot car needs to rest 15-20 min before it will start. When cold starts within a second where as warm after a cool down period it takes about 2-5 seconds. Read starter might be an issue but I don't think its the case here because cranking speed is constant cold or hot.

Only owned car for a week at this point, bought new coils because I've seen similar problems from other cars with that being the issue. Didn't fix my problem. Talked to prior owner he said his mechanic suggested to replace the coil wire... all four coil wires are in good shape. Thinking about doing a seafoam cleaning and compression test. Might try to clean up the ground for the coils too, see if that makes a difference. then move into new plugs and wires from there. I don't know which starter it has in it, any identifing features to tell the difference? I'm open to suggestions

First - check starting speeds here ....
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...ck-out-207244/
Coils you have will be inferior to stock coils because the dwell time required to charge them will be insufficient from the stock tune ..... so go back to stock coils

So... waiting on starter, part store said they would call when it comes in just wanted to update with another symptom. happened before but figured it was driver error... but today definitely was not me. stop an go traffic sitting at the top of a hill let out clutch a little to roll and as soon as i pushed it back in it droped back to 900 rpm which is normal then stalled no real hesitation before it stalled just dropped out like i turned it off. all electrical was working ie; radio, gauges, spedometer. nothing out of the normal. of course i had to move the car to the side of the road like a dumb *** to wait the usual 10-15 min to start it. but i use the car as my daily driver and i know this wasnt my direct doing and maybe happened one other time since posting this. any ideas?

Compression test, signs point to a new engine. Wish you'd read up here before buying the car. Check the original sale date to see if you are still in the 8 year engine warranty. All rx8s have this.
