Hey guys,

I hit a freaking thing in the middle of the road which i could not avoid and next thing i know i here these noises. I checked under the car and what the hell is this? would i need to replace it, it is bent as hell. I also see some insulation under there. I attached picture, i am pretty pissed off as this car is literally a month off. Any help out there.

if you absolutely have to drive it try to either remove the other end or zip tie/wire tie it up and out of the way. but only do that to get to a mechanic or dealer, don't drive around town that way. If it comes off and causes damage to another car or person you're SOL

I would definitely go through your insurance on this one. The bolts are still hanging on there so you've probably torn out the nuts that are welded inside the body out with it. That's where you're gonna have some trouble. I can't believe that happened to you man that sucks.

There will be to other 8mm(12mm socket) bolts holding in the other side that you should be able to take out without jacking up the car. Then at least it won't be dragging and seeing as one side is sheared off it's not doing anything hanging there anyways.

Can you take a pic from the other side?

[QUOTE=Torotor;3917769]I would definitely go through your insurance on this one.

I had a couple hits with my precious 8: 1 gator (shredded tread), and 1 dead skunk hard enough with wheel that I thought I had damage like you show, but you could almost fix this by jacking it back up, and refastening.

NEVER-EVER claim little road hazard crap like this because it'll run your policy in a negative way.

Always talk catastrophic damage when buying insurance, get the highest deductable ($500 or $1000), and pay all those little repairs.

Be careful, and show responsibility by insuring only large losses, and the insurers will scramble to get your business instead of you begging for help.

^Fair enough. I'm in BC where we don't have a choice of insurers. Only one so I guess I don't really know how it works for you guys.

However I think this could be very serious damage(read $$$) because it looks as though OP pulled the nuts right out of the chassis. It seems to me if this were the case it's not a simple part replacement but fabrication is in order. Especially this being a piece that is definitely part of the structural integrity of the car. Who knows?

It would be pretty easy to take off. I'm kind of wondering if it would be that bad if it wasn't on. It's not exactly a beefy part.
