I just currious what normal is. My co-worker has a red '8 and he says his idle just above 1k. Mine is at 750 +/-.

If some cars idle (after being warm) in the 1000's yet some people idle at 750-900...I wonder if, cause it would make kinda sense...if the cars in the 1000's waste more gas? Especially since some are reporting 750 vs 1,100...a significant diff in my opinion....hmmmm???

When I start the car it's around 2K. Then it settles down to about 1.25K. Then it always revs back up to 1.5K by itself, then settles back down to 1.25K. Then I drive it. Once the engine's warmed up the idle is below 1K. Not sure exactly where it is though but 750-900 sounds about right.

I think the tech manual states 650 to 750 as normal but mind ocassionally dips to 500. Oh, mind idles around 6xx at this rpm my car shakes more than it should. Don't know if my has a problem. Took it to the dealer twice and tech said car idling fine.

warming up, its likes to hug around 2k and when it warms up its always just right above the 1k mark. the idea of idleing at 500 kinda blows my mind... wouldnt it be almost dieing? lol

the rx-8 book supplied by mazda (manuel:p)says the normal idle (at normal engine temp) is 750-800 rpm. Once warmed up you rcar should not be at the 1k or above level.
