Transmission help

Ok so in short I blew my transmission. 4th gear up is blocked and no reverse. When I release te clutch I hear a loud clanking sound. So where I lead to this is what should I do. Should I buy a new or old transmission or rebuild the current one. Also is there anyway I can strengthen it or should I consider an rx7 tranny. Any suggestions much appreciated but no flaming thanks.

low mileage, second hand, rebuilds and new are insanely expensive and unnecessary. Check out JDM or something similar and get one with some sort of guarantee for a few hundred dollars. If your clutch is low mileage you can just transfer but remove your old tranny first to inspect, it's always possible it may be your clutch if it came completely apart.

yep, parts are not cheap to rebuild these 6 speeds as they are only available from the factory and quite expensive after they are done nickel and diming you. buy a second hand transmission with some sort of guarantee from a reputable dismantler.

the internals could be cryo treated but it is unknown whether that would make it stronger or not(the iternals are already heat treated and strengthened), so is it worth spending $1k additional? probably not. an FD RX7 transmission will fit but the clutch is all wrong, as is likely the shifter position, also only 5 gears vs 6, not worth the headache IMO to make it work even if it is about as indestructable of a tranny that will fit with the least modification.

If i were you I'd save some money up and get a 09+ transmission. The swap is fairly easy if you know what you are doing.
