Stock Air Filter Removal

I bought a K&N replacement filter. Manual says disconnect electrical plug, undo the clips and lift top of air box to remove existing filter.

I can only get the top of the box open about two inches. Is this normal? There is enough room to slide the new filter in, but not enough to pull the old one out?

Do I need to disconnect the entire intake, hoses, etc. to change the filter??

Ohh.. one crucial piece that I was missing was that I need to first pull up on the back of the air box to release the clips before I try and take it out.. got it now..

Im not trying to hijack this post but Inoticed that after I tookmy K&N Typhoon Intake outa few months ago andput the stock airbox back on - now the airbox seems kind of loose and canbe pulled out and opened very easily. Ithink iI forgot to put somethingback on when I was reinserting t butI dont have anyother screws or clips available. Car is runningfine though. Does it really matterif the airbox isnt 100% tight like itused to be?

Maybe you should make sure it sits in the rubber gromets both on the top and at the bottom. It could be you lost those also while you had the other intake...

Yeah, what the hell is up with that thing being so loud? I got mine and I was like...sweet! Carbon fiber end caps, big ol filter, nice fit and finish. I thought it looks pretty similar to the K&N kit that goes on the vette. Then I fired her up and...what was that? Oh...it's my car! WTF? I have put intakes on countless cars. None of them had any where near the sound change that this one has. It's not absolutly horrible but not exactly what I was looking for either. When you spend 30k+ on a car, you don't really want it to sound like a hundred other 2 bit civics running down the road (not that I have any thing against civics, I have had 3). Oh well, just venting a bit.

I just took it off anhour ago and putthe stock back on again. Once againthe Typhoon gave me horrible mileage (finished that tank w/only 190 miles) and my performance was now slower than a Civic whereas before at least itwas faster than a Civic (Ive got auto tranny). Only thingit did was turned heads -- and notfrom the crowd youd want attention from either. Ithink its time to finally put it back on Ebay

Butlet me get back on topic b/c I noticed something else--

There is oil that has dried up all overthe bottom of my air filter (on the filter itself). Do Ihave to buy a new one now? 23k miles soundsa little early for filter replacement
