Splash guards in front wheel well???

Hi all

I just was watching a you tube video of a guy changing his coil packs and spark plugs and he accessed them from the left front wheel well.

In the video there was a what looks like a rubber splash guard/cover he had to remove before he could access the engine spark plug area. My RX8 is a 2005 model and it does not have these guards on either side of the car.

Are they missing on my car or did some models not come out with them? The video I was watching was of a 2004 model RX8.

I am also in Australia so not sure if they came with the cars in Australia or not. Are they important? My car has done 40000k's without them so far it would appear.

Any feedback appreciated.

Cheers

There is no difference between ANY Series I RX-8 anywhere in the world, they all have the exact same front "splash guards or fender liners".

As do the Series II, slightly different, but the same worldwide.

I guess if yours are not there then the previous owner (if there was one) may have removed them.

BTW, there are a total of 7 black plastic splash or water guards for the RX-8.

One Sump Pan (Oil Pan) under cover in middle.
Left and Right slitted Oil Cooler splash guards behind OC in front wheel well which also joins to the centre Oil Pan Guard.

Left and Right Fender inner splash guards (wheels), and then 2 mini rubber flaps (which are probably the ones missing), rear of front suspension A arms (roughly).

All fixed on by black quick plastic push clips and some metal screws.

Your right, I think they have either fallen off or were not replaced during a service. I just ordered some one for each side. They were only $23 each , so not to bad.

Cheers for letting me know.

Just another thing, I am assuming there are two of these? one for each side? I can see the mounting holes on both sides for it (drivers side and passengers side). Mazda say they only stock the one part, you have to reverse it for the other side supposedly which makes sense.

Perhaps this particular guard is prone to begin ripped off or just falling off as it is not secured at the bottom, only at the top?

They will only come off if the clips are messed up.

its just a piece of rubber(?) with two holes in it, so the one part does both sides.

in addition to breaking clips, ive seen a couple ripped ones.

part number is F151-56-321E

the clips are BC1D-56-145
