Renesis for a 914 ?
Aloha,
Does anyone have information about converting a 914 to use a Renesis engine? Adaptor plates, where to locate a used or new engine etc?
Please advise as I think this is the perfect engine for a great little sports car !
I'd also like to know how to get my hands on the engine and tranny package Mazda uses in those little open wheel cars they show on their ads. It appears that configuration mimics the mid-engine layout already established in a 914 and could make the swap much easier.
Mahalo,
Kelly

VW coulda had it...
Hey The Kelzer:
It sounds like an interesting project. I looked into putting a rotary in a Fiat X1/9 in the past but was told it wouldn't work because the Wankel is kind of fat, and wouldn't clear the halfshafts like the narrower Fiat motor. (transverse layout)
I know the 12A or 13B is a possible swap into the 914: as far as I know, the face/bolt pattern of the rear side housing is the same on the Renesis, (maybe people who have swapped 20B's into the RX8 would know?) and being a longitudinal placement, clearances shouldn't be a problem.
Also, check with the Kennedy people who make adapters for the rotary to VW or Porsche transaxle, perhaps they would know.
As for the Mazda Star transaxle, (Hewland?) getting one may be difficult, then you would probably have a bit of a chore fitting it to the chassis.
Good luck!

You need look no further. I have several renesis motors and know someone who has professionally installed a rotary in a 914 already. Give me a call, PM me, whatever, I can help,
Paul.

Your absolutely correct zoom. There must truly be a curse on silvers. Almost everything I have is silver.
JUST KIDDING! ; I've only had two silvers so far but hopefully I will have a motor
left for you when the time comes. How's the kid situation coming along if you don't mind my asking?
