Oil Weight Usage?

What do you guys recommend on the oil weight? I've heard 20-50 or straight 30wt.

Highly debated, there is no real answer because the numbers on the bottle don't mean a whole lot. The general consensus is a 30W at least for a DD and 40W for the more enthusiastic group. I run Mobil1 0W-40, best of both worls in terms of cold starts and viscosity but you will have to change whatever you choose often and even more often given the oil you choose and its driving environment.

oh god, another oil thread.

1990: don't take it personally when this thread gets locked but this topic has been discussed more times then I can even imagine.
Try using the search option and ask it to search "thread titles only".

the general concensus is that 5w-20 is not enough, most people use 5w-30 or higher.
I use 5w-30 Castrol GTX but it all comes down to personal preference.

Some helpful info:

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/lets-look-expo1s-over-100k-renesis-motor-138402/
https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-multimedia-photo-gallery-6/charles-hill-engine-rebuild-51k-turbocharged-rx-8-a-148395/

I like reading such threads that show engine wear with some known maintenance history.

If I got a dollar for every oil thread, I'd be a millionaire by this time. 10W-40

5w20 or 5w30.

When you search, look for the oil chart from the Australian owner's manual.

The real question is:

Should we use Synthetic or Din oil?

Personally I have decided to switch to 0W0 Hyper Synthetic. NYCGPS uses it and swears by it.

Oh, but the 0W0 Hyper Synthetic also protects against pot holes and fender benders.

I like how people tried to answer his question without knowing where he is. seriously its important. there are areas of the south and west where i'd probably run 20w50(that he mentioned) most of the year. but up here i stick with 5w20 or 5w30.
