obd2 scanner tells me...
Ok so I just got my engine put in. (junkyard engine) and it has the cel illuminated. The scanner reads two codes: "misfire cylinder one detected", and "misfire cylinder one detected" (yes they say the same thing, i dont remember if the actual codes were the same, but the description was) I don't understand what that means. I mean we don't have cylinders. Does this mean the leading and trailing spark plugs are both bad for one rotor? I dont know much about leading and trailing plugs so im clueless. I can't really notice a misfire, maybe a little at idle, but that's it. Any ideas?

Can I check the coils and wires by taking one of the wires off the plug while it's running and check for spark? (if i get spark that means the coil and the wire is good, right?)
And no I didn't change the plugs.
I'm just confused how it says it has two "cylinder one misfires"
And what's the 20x brake pedal thing?

Your right we don't have cylinders, but we can't expect the scanner companies to make a scanner special for ours cars, unless we wanted to pay ridiculous prices for it. It's just a general term really. Cylinder one is the front housing, cylinder two is the rear. Sounds like you had two misfires in the front rotor. Check your plugs and I would just for posterity change the coils and wires. Do the brakes pedal reset and see how that goes.

Ok so I did the brake pedal thing. When the ecu reset (after the oil pressure gauge shot up and dropped down), the CEL blinked a couple times then stayed lit. I started it up and it stayed on.
The car runs fine. Doesn't seem to have a missfire, so I'm afraid to mess with it.

Well, now that the CEL is solid, you should get the code read.
My guess is the eccentric shaft position sensor is giving you the trouble. If the car can't detect where the eccentric shaft is, it could throw random misfire codes. It happened to me when the sensor face was dirty with dust containing metal particles and rust. The 20x brake pedal pump will reset the sensor but if it is dirty, broken or not in the correct position it could give you problems.
It never hurts to replace the plugs, coils and wires though.
I'd love to sit here and throw out ideas all night, but it seems pointless considering I don't know what the code is at this time. Anyways, when you get the CEL code, post it up and we can try and further diagnose.
