No BEEP at redline

Hi...I am not getting the beep or red light when I hit the redline! Should I be concerned, happy or what? I Reved it up to about 9500rpm just to see if it would come on and nothing. Lose a lot of power around there, fuel cut off I guess.

Would it just be a fuse or something like that?

Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated!

Thx!

I also posted this in the Canadian Forum, but was hoping some of my comrades from the south could help a northern 8 brother out!

I think your lucky. I don't know if it's a fusable item. I wouldn't think so. I believe it's integreated into the dash pod.

I know that there is a diagnostic output check for the instrument cluster and one of them is for the buzzer.
To test the instrument cluster buzzer:
1) Put the key in the ignition
2) Push and hold the odometer button
3) Turn the key to the 'on' position (do not start the car)
4) Continue to hold the odometer button until 'test' appears in the lower right corner
5) Once 'test' appears, you can release the button.
6) Now push (not hold) the odometer button to scroll through various numbered options.
7) Stop when you reach output #14
8) After a full second you should hear the buzzer
9) To exit from the output diagnostic, simply turn the key to the 'off' position and back on.

Simply stop at each output and wait for a second.
Here is a list of all the outputs and what they mean:
1) Buckle switch
4) Door switch
8) TNS relay
12) Speedometer
13) Tachometer
14) Buzzer
16) Fuel-level warning light
18) Ignition key illumination
22) Fuel gauge sender unit
23) Fuel gauge
25) Water temperature gauge
26) Odometer tripmeter, warning and indicator light
28) Oil pressure gauge
31) Key reminder switch
55) Dimmer switch

I'm feeling generous today!
Another cool diagnostic I read about (all of these are in the shop manuals) is to test each individual speaker (just like the test tone on your surround sound system).
To perform this:
1) With the audio power on, press the 'POWER' button and simultaneously press the 'AUTO-M' button for roughly 1sec.
2) It will generate a test tone in the following order:
a) Front passenger-side door speaker and tweeter.
b) Front driver-side door speaker and tweeter.
c) Driver-side rear speaker.
d) passenger-side rear speaker.

The RX8 never came with a redline or shift light. It should be possible to fab one, however I have never had the cluster out to figure out how to do it.

No real point to those. If you need someone to get your attention everytime you need to shift you probably need more practice with a standard. Just shift when the needle gets to the red.

If it doesn't work.... then we'll go from there (that's my way of creating more time to think)
I've never had the cluster apart, but I would assume that the speaker is surface mounted somewhere on/near the cluster.
But whats the chance of that going out?

Cool...that's what I'm hearing, but for whatever reason I swear there is one on mine, just not 100%. Going to check tonight for the hole that I think is there for the light. If it's not, get the straight jacket out, cause I have lost it!! Obviously then if it is there, the person I bought it off did it. Don't really care about it, more just curious. Thx!!

fair enough!! Again it's not a huge deal, just like it for the track. Been driving standard for 12 years now and my other car didn't have one. Don't really think it's worth ripping the dash apart for a stupid little BBBuuuuZZZ noise Will let you know what I find. Thx again!

I could make a DIY with various output checks.
Some of them you would need Mazda's WDS (Worldwide Diagnostic Systems) so I won't include those.
Good idea.

That's pretty sweet...worked and got the buzzer noise. Redlined it and it went off So I don't know if this fixed it, or I was smokin some crazy shat last night but all is good. Oh and I have no red dot light either. I was really out of it last night/this morning

Any way to modify these?

Thx again!!

The diagnostic menu I posted above is from the Shop Manual, not the Owner's Manual.
