I've bought OEM oil filters for my 2005 from several different dealers, and have always gotten part number B6Y1-14-302-9A when I asked.
I just was ordering some things from Rosenthal up in DC, and saw that they don't carry that part number any more, now they carry B6Y2-14-302-P1.
They note that it's a "new" filter, and requires a different wrench size, which suggests the dimensions are somewhat different, not just a part number change.
I've searched, but can't find any info on this new part number, and this is not the new filter for the Series 2, N3R1-14-302, which I think is a completely different filter with different bypass pressure.
Anyone have any information on these, or have gotten them from a local dealer?
Thanks!

Yea no reason that I am aware of to have to buy a mazda filter for a s1. I wish I was as lucky as you with that I hate having to drive up to the dealer to get filters. >.>
I was searching for this too, but this thread was all I could find. I went to buy an oil filter today and...
Behold! Doesn't look like the filter we are used to does it? They must have changed suppliers. New unit has a flat o-ring instead of the round one, but I can't tell much more than that.

The OEM filter contains an anti-drainback valve. Although some aftermarket filters have this as well, there are many that don't. Namely, Fram and Penzoil.

Other than the Mazda filter being better than the majority of aftermarket filters.
There's a member here who was very knowledgable about filters, and sliced open every one he got his hands on. His posts were a few years back, and I did not bookmark them. But the conclusion was that a handful of the premium aftermarket filters were about as good, but most aftermarket did not even come close.
