NEEED HELP! 5th and reverse!!

I just picked up my car about 4 days ago, It's a 04 with around 30000 miles on it .
This morning i drove to the beach and back. The whole trip there's no problem with the car, rite when we got back i parked my car and was just playing around with the gears and realized i could not go in to reverse AT ALL. Over the past 3 days it's been fine but now it WILL NOT GO IN. It seems like i hitted a wall or something. so i drove around the block n back and it popped rite in to reverse, so i was like wutevers, and about 2 hours later i try to reverse my car it will not go in again. so i drove around the block and back. it still wont go in and i also realized i could not go in my 5th anymore either. same thing as the reverse, it seems lik ethere's a wall there or something PLEASE HELP~~

Anybody else had a problem with grinding going into 4th only? My '05 only has 5500 miles on it.

Possibly your shifter linkage. Check under the consold where it links to the shofter in the car and on top of the trans where it links to the gear selector. Or i know it is a bad clutch if you have problems with reverse and 1st. You didnt say anything aout 1st and you said 5th so its prolly not that. You probably have a linkage issue.

bad syncro. the grinding is your input and/or output shafts on your 4th gear.

Also it could have gone further than just a syncro and a fork could have been busted but that you would really have to try and break. The fork helps guide into the gear positioning and the synros help syncronize the up/down shifting through the gears.

yea that too, but like you said you really have to be getting physical to be breaking forks. And people usually only get that physical with their gearbox's from 1 -> 2 in cars they are dragging. I dont know anybody that shifts THAT hard into a 4th gear.

Whatever the cause with 5k on the clock i would take it to the dealer to tear it down and fix/replace it. There is no excuse for it that early in the life cycle. You will just continue to chew up your 4th gear and eventually you wont have one.

I dont know what the service duty is for the rx8 oem tranny fluid but my hyundai manual isnt called for untill 60k

And i very seriously doubt that the trans fluid would cause shifting like he is describing.
