Need oil metering pump sensor
Hi all,
I have a rx8 2004 manual transmission. recently had a mechanic do an engine rebuilt. the car won't turn on unless we push start it which would then turn on and die if left to idle. After researching here my guess is the mechanic didn't put the fuel wiring correctly so he will try that next. any other suggesting would be great.
Now, He also found that my oil metering pump sensor was broken, I was wondering if you guys knew where I can get the sensor with out the actual pump? I have been searching online but all the results come with the actual pump and sensor which can get pretty pricey.
Thanks in advance!

So.....the starter cranks the motor....but it won't start?
Do you have spark?
Fuel Pressure?
Pull the plugs and see if they are flooded with fuel. While they are out listen for 3 whooshes from each rotor. They should should even sounding
Other than that you have a lot of stuff to check. Start someplace and confirm everything...wiring..make sure the fuses are all good.... Make sure everything is plugged in ..especially the ES sensor.
Have you reset the Eccentric Shaft sensor?

yes the starter cranks the motor but it won't start. I do have spark. Fuel pressure, I haven't check. Also pulled the plugs and did listen for the 3 whooshes from each rotor and they sound even. I also reset the eccentric shaft sensor with the 20 brake stump and still nothing.

Is not been checked by an authorized mazda mechanic. Today he checked a few things and still nothing. We jump starter and it was fine for a few minutes until it just died. He would depress fully the accelerator but the car won't accelerate. It would just keeping dropping the rpm until it just dies. Any ideas??? Thanks!

Ok first of all, the mechanic most likely broke that sensor when removing or installing the engine. Happens all the time, but he should be on the hook for replacing it. Buying a used OMP will be the best way.
Second, do a compression test. I bet it's not making good compression being a fresh rebuild. That doesn't necessary mean it's a bad rebuild, but if there's a little hylomar in the seals or something it can be a pain to get running well. One thing that might work for you (once you have the sensor replaced) is push start it and immediately start driving it in circles, keeping it around 3000-4000 rpm without stopping. It might take like an hour of doing this, but if it can work.
