Dealer over filled Oil

My dam local dealer over filled my oil by at least a quart. I check it once a week, normally on saterdays. I got the oil changed on a friday, so I fiqured why check, so i waited till the text saturday. It was about a 1/2 inch above the Top full line...after a whole week of driving! I took it back and bitched and they removed some of the oil. Just a sorry, no free oil change, no free hat, not even a dam car wash! My question is does anybody know if that much over fill will cause damage to the car?

Regarding :

I had the same thing happen to me at my Dealership at Wayne Mazda. Had a free schedule maintenance oil change. They had a newby who was under training do my oil change and he put 5 quarts of oil in. Guess he didn't know! I didn't check the oil stick till next day. Trusted them. I was pissed. If you read the Mazda manual it does state not to overfill the oil above the full line because it will cause damage. I contacted the dealership and the head mechanic also stated it will cause damage. Not right away but over time. I had them due another oil change. The RX8 should only take 4 quarts not 5.

probably didn't put a new crush washer on. overfilling is bad- a half inch over the fill line sounds bad to me. that could be nearly a quart.

We had a guy here in Australia who had his car shipped to his dealer after it had predelivery inspection at another dealers lot. Both dealers obviously topped up the oil...end result was a great cloud of white smoke from the exhaust on the way home. They trucked it back in, drained the sump and the car has been fine since. At least six months back this happened, you could possibly forgive it back then, but the 8 has been around for a while now.

About time these dealers got it together. John and Blackbeard, your cars should be fine.

Regards, Gomez.
