Is my dealer crazy or am i just cheap?

So I called up my dealer today and told him i wanted to buy an ipod adapter, front and rear rotary accents, and some aluminum fender strakes.

well he says to me ok thats fine we have to order the parts, and then theres going to be an installation fee. I said thats fine how much is installation.

he tells me

well for the ipod its going to be
116 for the adapter 200 for installation.

for the frender strakes its going to be 200 and 150 to put them on .

and this is what drives me over the edge for the front and rear rotary accents he told me it would be 200-350 dollars for installation not even including the damn things. he was saying it would be 350 if they had to take the bumper off... im semi new to the 8 but i highly doubt that you have to take the damn bumper off.

im for sure paying for the ipod but should i just buy the parts and install them my self? how hard is it? thanks guys.

Buy online is cheaper.

install it youself (again)

have a few bucks left for beers.

dang dude - just buy from rx8strakes.com - I'd install them for a beer. The rear accent? Dude - it's literally a 30-second job. NOBODY has to remove the rear bumper to install it - I put mine on.

You clean the area, peal off the papers on the accent, and STICK it in place.

Your dealer is not only unethical they are scammers. Not only would I like to kick THEIR asses, but I'd like to drive to their houses and rough-up their dads, too.

^^ What he said. There are step by step directions for the installation of each of those parts in the DIY section of this site if I'm not mistaken.

And by the way, the rotary accents are held on by double-sided tape. $200-$350!!!

Your dealer is crazier than Osama Bin Laden in a New York deli.

It's times like this, that for the good of the community you list who this dealer is so the rest of us in your area know to stay away.

If it's $150 to install rotary accents, they'd probably charge you $1000 to fill your gas tank.

I would do the accents for a high-five.

The ipod will be the most complex install, though it took most of us 20 minutes, man i love this club.

You got that right. If you can't find a do it yourself thread here, you can always find someone that will come over and help work on your car for beer.

That's how my short shifter got installed.

And I'm returning the favour for someone else.

If you want do what I did. Order the parts from the dealer and when the service rep ask's "So when do you want to schedule your car to come in." you just respond with a slight snicker and say "I think I can handle this myself.". The look on the rep's face is classic. They wanted $460 to install some plastic wheel whell peice's but I bought them and installed them myself for all of $150 and about 30min's of my time.

I'd seriously consider talking to the Service Manager of that dealer and tell them what you were quoted for the accent installation and tell him "I know for a fact it only takes a few minutes for each one, what type of operation are you guys running here." If the guy doesnt apologize and if there is another dealer around you just tell him "..forget it I'll be going to X-dealer for now on."

Seriously....do these yourself with the possibly exception of the ipod adapter, but that shouldn't be bad either. You will save a ton of money and will make you feel good at the same time just because you did it. The Strakes should take you no longer than 15min per side......tops! The front and rear accents are also a breeze and about 5 min. each on a bad day! If you do it yourself, then you will really know how easy it is and how much they were gonna rape you! There are plenty of instructions or threads to show you how to do these. AND...........when you get them from the dealer, the should come with instructions....if not.......PM me and I'll send them to you!

lol, our techs take like an hour plus to do that...

accents, the dealer quoted you wrong on, they tape on, even if you clean everything really well and take your time its still a 5 minute job on each end of the car.

Trussville is pretty good, I get a lot of stuff from there. Rosenthal in DC is good too, so it all depends on best price and whomever may do free shipping at that time.
I believe in the "new" as well for almost everything!!!!!
