Forum & club is excellent, Lots of very useful information.
I am looking to buy a RX-8, Have looked at 3 now and each time I have found faults and before I make the plunge would like to learn some more about these specialist sports cars.
All the cars I have looked at have the milky oil / water contamination on the dipstick, I have read the threads and come to the conclusion that its where the water within the oil can not be burnt of because it does not get hot enough and is especially vulnerable on short runs / cold climates am I correct? Any one got a picture of the modified dipstick Mazda offer to combat this problem? Does it work?
I did question this with my Mazda dealer in the UK and they have said give it a wide birth, They reported that it is because of a breakdown in a internal seal.......Help, is this true, I know you can not really do anything with these engines because of the complicity of them.
I have saw a few that struggle to start when warm, is this due to lack of compression because the parts of the engine have contracted due to normal running temperatures causing a drop in compression???
How often should the oil be changed? Is it a hard Job?
What is the life of the RX8 engine? (Mileage)
Any info what to look for would be greatly appreciated, I really want one but do not want to end up with a large garage bill because I did not research enough
Thanks

Milky dipstick - not a problem.
Warm start issues - may very well be compression related. This means a worn engine. Do a compression test before purchasing the car and read the results for yourself.
Changing the oil every 6000 or so miles should be just fine.
The life expectancy depends on a lot of things. Some engines just last more than others. Premix and a fresh ignition system do help. Avoiding short trips helps a lot too.
