I have had my RX-8 for almost a year now. I have an automatic with almost all the extras. I love the car. However, after a couple months of driving it, I noticed that it started running rough. To make a long story short, it has been running really rough on and off (more on than off) for about 10 months now. What I mean by running rough is that when it shifts into gear it will hesitate, you can't increase your speed or anything. It hesitates, then throws it into gear. Then, when I am sitting at idol, whether it's at a stop sign or red light, it shakes or vibrates really hard. If I let off of the gas a little it starts bucking a little. Then it makes this noise that sounds like the motor is conjested or something and also makes a tapping sound. At first, the check engine light would come on every time it did this, but not any more. One night, it killed on me 3 times. I have brought it to the dealership 7-8 times already. They can't find anything wrong with it. The second to last time I brought it in, they told me that if they couldn't fix it, they would work on buying the car back from me. But then when I brought it in, they told me that there was nothing that they could do because it had stopped running like that when they drove it. I am frustrated to say the least! Is anyone else having this problem???? Or can you give me any advice???

where are you located?
does this happen cold? hot?
when did you buy your 8?
what work have you had done before?
any mods?
did they find any cel codes?
what if anything does any paperwork you have say?
have you taken it elsewhere for a second opinion?
First of all, thanks for replying with feedback.
To answer your questions, I'm located in New Orleans. It happens no matter which weather conditions we are under, but we typically have a hot climate. I bought the car Halloween Day of 2003. No previous work done besides regular service maintainance. No mods. It's a fully loaded (as far as package wise) automatic, 4-cylinder. In the beginning, when the check engine light was coming on, they found a code that said that the car was running too lean. But they didn't do anything to fix it, besides re-setting the check engine light & telling me to use a higher brand of gas. I tried every mid-grade and premium gas at every high brand gas station. NO LUCK! Although I have to say that it did run better on premium than mid-grade, but not by much. I don't have any paperwork that addresses this problem directly. I've taken it to 2 different Mazda dealerships and talk to the service manager of both places. I also wrote a letter to Mazda Corp. about my problem & they basically told me that there was nothing they could do, but tell me to go see a certified service techinician at one of the dealerships. I replied that obviously I wouldn't be writing them if I hadn't been to the dealership.
TROLL ALERT TROLL ALERT or missinformed dude 4 cylinder either ur a dueschebag troll or you did no research b4 buying a car ill go with Duesch bag untill other wise informed
i don't think he's a troll (this is as untrollike a post as i've ever seen). in used car ads for RX-7's it doesn't surprise me when i find half or better saying it's a 4 cylinder because of the 4 spark plug wires (apparently them all being on the same SIDE of the motor doesn't clue them in).
next time, try a search on these issues, there are TSBs for problems which have some symptoms as you describe them.
Can somebody please tell me what "troll" means in your trendy, avant garde and sometimes illogical internet jargon?
In the meantime, I think this person has a blocked catalytic converter. And maybe a faulty O2 sensor as well, caused by flooding somewhere, sometime. Or faulty ignition coils, or plugs.
Oh, I used to have a customer who drove a 4.0 L Jeep Cherokee for 3 years thinking it was a V6 (it was a straight 6). Even after I explained the physical differences between the engines he still said "What's the difference?" I finally gave up and said "The V6 is newer". Whatever...
You know, that just figures. I go to this website because I am having trouble with my car and just looking for some help. But there's @$$holes like you poeple that have to insult people and can't just answer my question. I'm sorry if I'm not as mechanically inclined as all of you ignorant mother f***ers!!!!!!!! But women don't usually understand all the ins and outs of cars. That's why, as our last result, we have to ask you men. And this feedback just proves that men can't be serious and just answer a question without some f**king ignorant response. But don't worry! I'll burn this mother f**kin' car before posting anything on this site again!!!
