I got a CEL last week and had the dealer check it out today. They had to reflash the computer but said something happened during cold weather start up and the air pump caused the CEL. They want me to take it home to see if it does it again tomorrow morning. That's a strange one and one I had not seen on here before so wanted to let all know.

Sorry to hear about your CEL but with everything people talk about here, a CEL is the least of your worries...LOL

I hope everything goes great and the issue does not return. Now, with regards to flash do you mean flash your ECU? Did they give you a new flash?

Air pump? The one under the hood, not the trunk. I hope your new flash isn't the defective one. I didn't know the air pump had a computer sensor mounted to it.

I wasn't given a whole lot of info from the dealer. I went in and told them I had a CEL and the service guy gave me this confused look and said "you want to sell your car'? LOL I said I had a CEL and it stands for Check Engine Light. He said he never heard of that before. Yeah, he told me the air pump during cold start kicked the CEL on. I brought it to work today and it started fine and no CEL so I guess its ok. I would imagine these cars have a lot of sensors. I thought it was going to be the gas cap because a loose gas cap can trigger a CEL. I will turn the cap to hear three clicks for now on but that was not the problem. I figured it was not that serious because the car runs fine. Anyway, I just wanted people to know about it. I have not seen anyone post a CEL for the air pump. I assume its the one with the engine something like a Smog Pump with the engine and emissions stuff. I don't even have the write up yet. They use a second party for the billing to Mazda motors and they said I will get a copy in the mail. Thats different. Glad everyone is enjoying their cars. Good to see Blaaz and RX8wannahave (who now has the RX) I post on the political thread now and then but the one where Flatso asked about where was God in the great wave, I was about ready to post on it but the Mod shut it down. Bummer.

The air pump mounted on the passenger front fenderwell is indeed monitored by the PCM (via voltage drop I believe)

I've seen 2 replaced this winter.
