Flooding
Hello,
I'm making this topic over some confusing info online that is telling me to do one thing and another source telling me to do the other.
my friend flooded the rx8 by giving it gas on start up when he stalled it and continued to do it when it wouldn't start
a topic on here says to remove the fuel pump fuse (yellow 20A) and then do the following
- put foot down on gas to the floor
- keep the key turned for 20 seconds
- off and then repeat
other guides are telling me to remove other stuff and i'm just unsure, do I stop as soon as the car starts? will it be deflooded if it starts?
Thanks all

1. Is the car auto or manual?
2. How is this confusing? Do as the experts on this site suggest. Get the engine started. Take it for a spin to bring to operating temp. Shut down. May need to check the plugs to see if any fouling occurred. If plugs are bad, order new. May as well replace all components of the ignition.
3. Search more, should you still find any of this confusing.

It's just that there's 3+ ways of doing it, this way seems convenient but not sure if it's the right way. This is something I saw on the net, I've came here to verify with you guys if it's correct.
The car is manual, I am not very car savvy so I had to post to make sure my translation of their instructions are correct and I don't want to be doing any damage to the car
- hook up battery leads
- remove fuse
- gas to floor
- turn key
hold for 20 seconds
repeat until started and drive until temp is 2 ticks away from the middle?

You can do it that way, as well.
The BEST way to deflood a MANUAL transmission car is to push/pull start it.
-put the car is 1st gear if pushing, 2nd if using a car to pull, and remove ebrake.
-EDIT: turn key all the way to "ON"
-with foot pressing clutch down, move the car using chosen method.
-around 10mph, slowly release the clutch. Car should start.
*WARNING* Be careful not to freak out and slam on brakes or gas once car starts.

Did you drive it around and get it up full operating temperature before shutting it down and trying again?
When is the last time the plugs, ignition coils, and spark plug wires were replaced?

yeah the temp was good
i have no idea about that, me and my friend just got this off a guy who took it in part exchange
it's a 54 plate with tons of extra goodies and a full engine rebuild at 80k miles

Davidjf: If your having flooding problems, you likely have a weak ignition. You need to check and/or replace the ignition coils, spark plug wires and spark plugs. Continued operation, with a weak ignition, will send unburned fuel to the catalytic converter. This will cause it to overheat and fail. These from Mazda are expensive. Here in the U.S. they are about $1500 new.
In 10 years of owning the car, I've had it flood twice. The first time was likely due to a weak ignition. The second, likely due to not warming it up. Both times the car started with the Mazda recommended procedure.

Apologies all, I know silly questions like these must pop up all the time and you get tired of answering them but I'm just trying to recap on the things I've read/learned on here before doing vital damage to an engine that only just got rebuilt a few thousand miles ago.
