Extra intakes in Front Scoop?? What are they?

Looking in the main bottom intake I saw two plastic intake scoops on the car's right side. They look sorta like upside down periscopes, and there are no corresponding one's on the car's left side. The opening of the lower forward one is about 1" sq while the other one is more like 1"x2". My first thought when I saw the first one was "Cool, brake ducts", but since there's none on the other side and they go up rather than back, that can't be the answer. Anyone know?

Air cleaner snorkels. The big un for all models and the little un in parallel for 7,500 RPM+ on the high power version.

In the technical highlights CD they mention cooling ducts for the battery and ECU... maybe these are for that purpose? They look rather small for the intake

That must be it, since they are below the battery & ECU. Thanks.
