Engine Oil Analysis & Amsoil vs Mobil1
I was given this web site to review for trends in perfromance of Amsoil and Mobil1.
http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/s.../oil-life.html
It was in a Camaro and carefully measured every 1000 miles. I posted this because at least for LZ1 engines:
1. Mobil1 works *great* - 18,000 miles with filter change at 12k miles
2. Amsoil is *great* too in it's own ways. Worked for 12k miles without filter change.
3. Most engines break in at about 3,000 miles, wear-particle-wise.
4. Make-up oil is very supportive to extended oil drain intervals, more so than a filter change.
I am switching to Amsoil XL-7500 5w30 once my engine hits 3,000 miles. Since I store the car in winter, I plan to see about changing the oil once per year in the spring coming out of storage. I put on about 7500 miles per year.
Also, I am putting on a Fumoto valve to make it easier to drain the oil:

I have one meant for an RX-7 that I think should fit. I am considering measuring oil samples every 1000 miles or so to see the trends in oil performance.

Personally I would stick with the 5w20 grade and change the oil according to the schedule specified in my owners manual.
I too use Amsoil xl7500, but I change my oil every 4,000 km.
The manual says every 8,000 km, so at 8k I go to the dealer and have the paper trail indicating that I have changed the oil as specified.
I change at 4k on my own not because I have to but because I want to.
I enjoy it and it makes me feel like a man!!

What do I mention several times the fact that I am a guy or to follow your owners manual?

Lol.
"feel like a man" was simply a figure of speach. But then after I thought that possibly someone might think I am a chick or something. I just wanted to clarify I am a guy. Not that it matters. I was just being silly.
