Anyone else have a problem of the cap getting too tight to where you start looking for the pump pliers to remove it?? Happened to me a couple times, so I'm real reluctant to give it that extra 1/4 turn.

^^^Sorry guys, I hadn't read the next several posts. Join the club.

Seriously, is there such thing as a Flux Capacitor in the 8? I am mechanically challanged. I am having hard time sleeping thinking where that cap may be hiding.

Assuming that the flux capacitor is still intact, he can simply transport back to the past before he lost the damn oil cap and just tighten it down.

Did you get something on there to cover it up yet?
Aye,

Went to R&S and bought a generic cap for 6 bucks.

i wouldn't stress about it too much. its probably pulled an elvis and left the building (or in your case, the engine bay).

but if you are that concerned about it, take it to the dealer and have them look for it.

The first time I read this thread I was like "How in the world could you have lost the oil cap?". Now that it's happened to me, I'm truly humbled. I just hope it fell somewhere down the road while I was driving.

Same story, came back from a business trip yesterday, glad to be home driving my 8, was checking the oil level this morning. I was absolutely baffled when I took off the engine cover and realized the oil cap was missing!! The oil level was still okay, just 1/4 inch off the full mark. Don't really remember when it went MIA, though it was most probably about a week or two ago as I always check my oil after long journeys. Time to shop around for an aftermarket oil cap. Right now, I've got some aluminium foil over it secured by duct tape *Sigh!*

Checking the oil everyday? Your dipstick must be wearing thin.

How do some of you guys find time to actually drive the car? Maybe sometime in between worrying about oil consumption, fuel consumption, flooding, exposed AC condensors, etc. I now know why Mazda left the turbo off.....to many ppl would worry about it to much of the time.

I changed my oil last fall and set the oil cap on and went to dispose of the empty bottles. When I came back I forgot to tighten it and it fell off during the test drive. No big deal, except all of the leaves covering the road were yellow. Took me over two hours to find the damn thing! Now it looks like a dog chewed it up.
