I think we all notice that any movement of the temperature gauge off max cold results in much warmer air coming from the vents.
If I were you I'd just be happy that max cold gets you 42 degrees. I don't do much better than 50 (new amplifier, evaporator, expansion valve, same old cycling).
I have invested $34,000 into my car. The A/C S----S !! I am 47 years old and have owned NEW Avalon, Tahoe, Altima, Lexus 300, several Chevy trucks, Ford Mustang, RX7, and I know I am fogetting some.
There is absolutely no reason to expect a decent A/C system! ALL my other cars and trucks have had super A/C systems!!!!
So if want to be satisfied with a piece of C---P that is your business.
I expect better!!!!!!! And Mazda should be ashamed of the A/C.
I'm not trying to flame and I understand your position, but that's just the way the car is. We've all invested $30k and we all have to take the good with the bad and unfortunately, the A/C isn't great. Living in TX, I've learned tricks to help keep the car cool that's I'm willing to share and there's a DIY to help as well.
MDRX8 i understand you are not happy with your car's AC system. however we dont need multiple threads by you about it, merged your "call" thread with this one
You guys got the aircon you paid for. I paid well over $40000USD for my car. It has no leather, no TPMS, no nav, no xenon headlamps, no fog lamps, no sunroof.
It does however come with climate control air......and it's ice cold .
Mine is ice cold as long as a I keep the rpm's up to at least 3k. At idle is warms up just a little and that is to be expected since the compressor isn't turning as fast.
mine is ice cold all the time too, even on triple digit and near triple digit days, and is like that even at idle.
i have no quantitative evidence for this, but about a week ago, after my radiator fan ran for 45 minutes one evening after getting home from work, i decided to experiment...i removed the decorative engine cover. since then i haven't heard the fan running after the car is shut off, the temp. guage reads a few ticks cooler, and the a/c is cold with 30 seconds of starting the car up.
i got into an accident that trashed the radiator so they replaced it (i guess with the new one) and now im freezing my *** off with the thing set to 2 while before i was between comfortable and slightly warm in the summer heat with it set to 3.
if you don't like, just get rid of the car - shrug-
In case you have no idea how an air conditioning system works, the system can only suck a finite amount of heat out of the air that passes over the coils. This means that the more air you blow over the coils, the warmer the air will be. This is the case your every car ever made.
PS- it was 96 degrees today and in my black car I had the fan on 2 in recirc mode and i was perfectly comfy.
Can anyone help me out three new amp's , 1 control system, new and larger evaporator,
AND MAZDA TECH SAYS THI IS NORMAL!!!!
You are in a US spec car? Can you say "operator error"? The **** on the drivers side has 4 detents for the fan motor. The **** on the passenger side has 16 detents for the heater. The only **** you can be turning 7 notches is the heater.
Reminds me of an old Marx brothers joke - Dr., it hurts when I do this. Dr says, don't do that.
BTW, with the a/c on and the heat off, 42 degrees is an excellent reading.

So the US car has only 4 detents for the fan? I have 7 for the fan in my Euro spec 8 and the a/c works great. I usually leave it at the 3rd setting at 19 C (66 F) driving around in this boiler room called Singapore. If the climate control didn't work I'd be raising hell, couldn't drive it otherwise! Fortunately, it's better than I expected.
