Base RX8, Fully Fueled Weighs 2960lb, Without Driver

I decided to find out what our RX8's truely weigh so that when I get a Gtech I have an accurate number. So I decided to visit a local truck stop (very interesting palces btw) and use their CAT (Caterpillar) scale which is so accurate they pay the ticket if their scale is off when the truck driver goes over on a weight station. I did check to make sure it would be accurate down at the low end since most of these big rigs have to be 20 tons or more. People use these to weigh regular trucks as well for tax purposes (such as that stupid law that helps out the hummer)

Again, my car is base, no leather, no sunroof, no Nav, no upgraded stereo, there was nothing in my car other than tire kit (I took out the other tools) and it was fully fueled at 15.9gals (I filled up right before to be sure). This is without me in the car. My only Mod is the Mazdaspeed suspension, which is a wash with the stock suspension I'm sure.

So we have the total filled weight of 2,960lb, therefore, if a Gal of gasoline is about 6.1lb (96.99lb for 15.9gal) at 72degrees, then without fuel the weight of the car is 2,863lb.

Hope that helps folks, I'm going to get an accurate wheel and tire weight this weekend as well.

*Update* The scanned image in in my vbgarage

Good to know, thanks for the report. Question to all the experts, how much different will the weight be from that of the GT? I know it will be a bit more, but is it a significant amount?

my car has the touring package (not grand touring) so I have the fancy stereo, rear view mirror, and sunroof, but no power seats, leather seats, or heated seats, no nav package.

I had my car corner-weighed through the local SCCA club.

The gas guage was two ticks above the 1/2 mark. My best estimate, taking into account the amount of reserve fuel still in the tank after hitting the empty mark (2.5 gallons) is that I had about 10.3 gallons of gas in the tank. (it's a 15.9 gallon tank). I took everything out of the car, including the floormats, but left in the factory-supplied air compressor (the corner of the car where the air compressor sits was still the lightest!)

it was 2969lbs. see http://www.desertsol.com/~kevin/rx8 for the full corner weights.

With a full tank of gas (assuming gas weighs 6.25 lbs/gal) I'd guess the car would weigh about 3004 lbs before I get in. Alternatively, with an empty tank, I'd guess it would weigh around 2905 lbs. (but it's not much fun with no gas)
