Is anyone certain about the engine difference...

Is anyone certain about the engine differences between the 6 speed, and the AT. My mum just bought one, and I hadn't heard anything about it having any less than 250hp, and then I find out that it only revs to 7500, and only has 210hp.

Now for me personally, this wouldn't be worth my 42,000NZ Dollars, cause I love a car that has heaps of power, having owned a modified Evo 4, and several motorbikes, 210 doesn't seem like much from a car that looks so fine. Anyway I want to know the difference between the 2 engines to see whether it is worth having a go at getting my mums car up to spec. If it has internal differences I wouldn't even have a go, cause it just starts to get too expensive especially the engine management side of a technologically advanced car like this.

Just a bit disappointed with it cause my 1995 Honda Prelude does about 6seconds 0-100k/hr with me thrashing it. (14.86seconds @92.9mph down the quarter) So I would absolutely waste the RX8 (AT). The manual however should take me.

Fair enough, so it's not worth having a go, plus it would probably be bad for the Transmission, which is why it is a lower spec in the first place. But I'm still interested if anybody is able to put it "complicatedly"

The High-Power has two extra injectors in the intake manifold, making a total of six.
It also has an auxiliary port valve in the intake manifold, which opens to allow air into two extra ports in the rotor side housings, suprisingly named auxilliary ports.
The HP also has the VFAD (Variable Fresh Air Duct) in the air cleaner housing to allow more air in at high rpm.
And of course the PCM is different.
The rpm are limited to 7,500 so that the auto does not self destruct. There are threads on this forum about successes members have had with automatics though. The might guide you a bit with regards to how to make mummys car sing.

Cheers, from another Kiwi...(living in Germany)

Go to the MazdaUSA web site page below for the specs. Not sure if these specs apply to a NZ car, but they are probably pretty close. This URL may appear as 2-lines in this post so you may have to copy and paste the entire URL into your browser address box.

BTW, acceleration and speed are not the only considerations for selecting a car. Everyone has their own requirements and their own paradigm, which do not always include high speed and quick acceleration. I'm sure your mum will be perfectly satisfied with the auto tranny.

Thanks for the info guys... big help in deciding it's just best to leave it alone (apart from maybe exhaust/intake/suspension mods), as it's all mum needs, would have liked it to be able to represent mazda rotaries a bit better though, but it's not like she would know any difference.

Also, it's a Japanese import one, so the JDM specs apply. Also was really funny. The car was at Giltrap Toyota in Auckland, probably the most reputable dealership in the country, and they were busy talking about the "turbo warming up" and stuff when they took my mum for a test drive. Bwahaha, even when I went to check it out while mum was picking it up, I was having to straighten them all out. I could understand how you could get it wrong, cause the whole engine bay is filled with plastic covers, but surely if you'd ever driven a turbo you'd know how the boost comes on. Also you would have been able to hear the whine of it.

No one really Knows the potential of the 4 port motor, since very few companies have even looked at it. It's all theory and specualtion in my opinion. There's a turbo kit available for it if you're willing to fork over the cash. Marketed by Re Amemiya at +60 or 70 horsepower. The auto transmission limits power not because it can't handle power addition, but because it can't rev to 9000 rpm, where the naturally aspirated Renesis makes the additional 40 horses.

Your spelling is fine, I believe the Haka is way overused, should be reserved for the traditional pre international rugby game only

Thanks for the advice on the Hymee, I just hope that it isn't too loud, I like a rumble rather than a scream (unless your revving it of course)

the AT and 6spd are different engines.

Primarily the 6spd is a 6 port engine (six fuel injectors and six intake runners) with a 4000+ rpm crossover for enhanced performance in the upper engine ranges.

The AT is a 4 port engine without a crossover.

There are substantial differences.

Would you care to explain a "crossover"?
