1st to 2nd Shift Noise
First time poster to this board! Got my RX-8 about a month ago and have just been laying low reading others experiences.
I did some searches for this on the board, but haven't run across this particular item yet, although I've seen a lot of people complaining about the "clunking" or grinding in the 1st to 2nd shift. Also read somewhere on here that the 6-speed RX-8 tranny is basically the same one in the MX-5 Miata with a sixth gear added. That would explain why it feels so much like my Miata of 10 years. Fixed it's shift problem with Redline MTL gear oil and a redesigned bushing from Mazda . Will probably do the same to the RX-8 withthe RL MTL.
On to the question - when I shift from 1st to 2nd, I hear a "whooshing" noise that seems to be coming from the area of the shifter itself. Doesn't do it on any other gear change, and you have to listen carefully to hear it. Having worked a my Miata transmission a couple of times, I'm aware that there ain't much between the shift boot and the outside world. I'm wondering if it's an air leak around the boot? I would be surprised as it occurs even at low speed shifts. Anyone else notice this?

Also note there is a DIY on tranny and differential oil replacement that I plan on referencing when I get up to about 5000 miles or so. Lots of helpful pictures and ideas about how to get the oil back in once you drain it.
