Alrighty,

so I still have ext warranty which I am pretty sure the mods to raise my rev up to 8500rpm would void. However, I want to start doing the research so I know what to budget for when the warranty expires.

I would really appreciate some help from the gurus who have done this mod.
I personally think this is probably one of the best mods any AT owner should do(based on my readings of other owners who are reving/shifting at 8500rpm).

From my understanding you need a transmission cooler(will just anyone work, or any specific brands to go with)?

Possibly some additional cooling mods(if so which ones? Bigger Radiator seems pretty logical)?

Cobb AP/Tuned by MazdaManiac-should be a given for this modification.

There are also a few questions that come to mind in regards to the Cobb AP tuning. I read on our boards in another post that the tune will need to be updated regularly, how often is regularly, and with all due respect, what is a rough estimate of the cost of the updated tunes(I understand you must data log your vehicle and submit the info to MM and he can adjust your tune, email it back etc)?

Aside this, I think I would like to get a catless mid pipe at the same time to free up the extra power. Rev to 8500rpm and have no cats, for a stock car IMO this is the way to go.

If you all could be so kind to give me the extra insight and rough estimates on costs for these upgrades I would greatly appreciate it. THis way I can start budgeting accordingly.

you don't need anything other then the cobb ap to increase your revs.. it won't provide any power but if it's what you want to do then do it.

You don't need cooling mods for this unless you plan on driving around in 1st or 2nd at peak RPM all day long.

There is no regular updates needed to an AP tune unless you make changes to your car that require a retune.

Is yours a 4 or 6spd? 6spd rev limits at about 8100, so the additional 400rpms isn't gonna do much besides to allow you to drive further in the gear, power drops before this rpm so its kind of a waste. If you live in a hot region, the extra cooling wouldn't hurt, but like laythor said, its not necessary.

Keep in mind that just because you increase your RPM limit doesn't mean you'll gain any power. Its the ability to flow sufficient air at those RPM's that makes your car faster. You could raise your limit to 10,000 RPM but unless you increase your airflow you'll just keep losing power as your engine moves farther out of it's VE.

i can verify a naturally aspirated 4 port, will not gain *ANY* power after 8,500RPMs

No Cooler is required, and it is simple as a tune, through COBBS or Protuner

HOWEVER, if the dealer reflashes the ecu during service, all tune will be lost and need to be reflashed back on, which is just a minute job

I'm lost here. The 6 port renesis makes peak power around 8200 or 8300RPMs. Our tach is off by 500RPMs when you are in that range, so what it'll actually show is peak power at around 8700RPMs. The AT 6port is no different than the MT 6port, besides having a bit more drivetrain loss.

I'm on board with Jin with this. I read on the boards that 8500 was MAX you needed. Anything after that was dropping power. Hence why I would like to raise the RPM to 8500 max!

this thread https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-specific-performance-mods-97/rev-limit-torque-converter-141139/ has said the max RPM in the AT is 7500(for the 6 speed 6port owners at least). My car is a 2006 AT 6port. I can't say I have noticed it going beyond 7500 RPM. If you have what year/model do you drive?

It gets hot here in TX, I feel the trans cooler would be very beneficial, just for peace of mind.

After it's paid off, forced enduction would have to out weigh the benefits on trading in on a Z06 vette :-)

Not sure I want to trade up, I love the way the 8 handles. But the Z06 is the best of everything, handling and HP(for a stock car).
