I have the original S1 starter, and I replaced the battery in October. It is an Optima red top, 720 CCA. When it fires up normally (90% of the time) it turns over immediately.

Yeah get an upgraded s2 starter it should help out. Also if you can get the engine tested again and post the readings on here with the RPM it was tested at we can give you a better idea of engine condition.

Just as a side note, I do not trust Scott either based on past experiences.

I truly hope he pulls through for you.

I have one of the compression tests at home. It is not a hot start issue, or a cold start issue. Hot, cold, day, night, it makes no difference. Once in a while, it just needs to crank more than the other times. I have driven it for an hour, parked it, and restarted it two minutes later and it fired right up. Ive also come out in the morning and it hesitated. I cannot find any rhyme or reason

A dissenting opinion from the Southern Hemisphere. Thanks for weighing in, Brett. I hope all is going well with your build. If you dont mind my asking, did you go with a Tial housing, or did you stick with Garrett?

I am not complaining about the starting speed in general, just that one out of every ten times, it takes longer, but always five seconds or less. The only reason I am talking about starting speed is that it lead us down this weird path. Had it turned over the normal way yesterday, we wouldnt be having this conversation.

I do not have it back.

Scott was testing it in the shop yesterday, and we stumbled into this tangent.

Fingers crossed for dyno test next week

Remember my prior advice to STFU and wait for the final results? It was intended to help avoid the total clusterf-ck that this thread has become. The desire to look like a hero in advance is always too alluring. And of course the Scott-haters never miss their opportunity to sow doubt with the usual cheap shots that you so kindly keep setting up for them. There was also some discussion about proper financial planning, which when going turbo on a older daily driven engine means being prepared for the inevitable.

At this point the hole is so deep you might as well just keep posting/blabbing until you pop up in China.

"Look like a hero in advance".....I have not bragged one time about what I am hoping to achieve. Instead, I am coming in here, reporting my progress, and asking for advice. Clearly that was too much to ask.

Please, give me some more financial advice. Did I say "Oh ****, I cant afford a rebuild, I am screwed!!!!!" No. I dont want to do a rebuild, no car owner does. We want the car to run, and we want to enjoy driving it. No one enjoys the idea of a damaged motor. I knew a rebuild was coming eventually, no RX8 lives forever. I was just hoping to get more time out of it.

China, here I come!

I wanted a new motor. I don't know any rx8 owners that don't want new motors.

Big,

Reading over your entire thread, IMHO, the turbo is a little oversized for a 4port. Not wanting to rehash what has already been posted, I'll say this.. Fix the Coolant overflow drain line. Plumb it to the bottom of the radiator so it drains on the ground and not on the EPS connection.

As for your Fuel.
My injectors, > 2 stock red primaries. 2 Uncapped 880 Yellows (Series 1)
I can safely run 8psi with no worries, but i don't recall how much air is being feed to the motor. This nets me ~257 @ the wheels on a Dynapak Dyno. To run @ 10-12, yeah i need 1600cc's or better.

I don't recall what your injectors are at this point, but the devil is all in the tune.

Hope Scott pulls through for ya.

A big thank you to 8club member Justin Fortz. He sold me a replica MS wing. The wing arrived last night, and I am very excited to get it mounted up once the car returns. We are planning to have it finished one week from today. I have also had some very interesting discussions with Ari, and he has some big plans for my little 4 port

So, you bought a wing but might have a bad engine still?

I purhased the wing before I knew about the engine having a problem. The wing arrived, I unpacked it, and I was pleased with it. I wanted to publicly thank a member for giving me a good looking accessory at an excellent price.

The engine passed two coolant pressure tests and is running normally. Scott anticipates that the car will be completed on schedule.

If you think I am taking the engine/coolant issue lightly, I promise you I am not. I am aware that while low mileage (30k) it is still a nine year old engine. I plan on testing the car thoroughly when I get it back in my possession. I have a local rotary specialist who is a friend of mine. (I trust Scott, and he does good work, but I would rather pay $250 and run the tests again, to double check).

Transport company absolutely hosed me. I was very confrontational on the phone, and now I think I need a new trucking company.

When it rains it pours

In the future, I will never ever use Car Transport Express. Useless customer service dept, poor communication, and they LEFT MY CAR IN A DIFFERENT STATE! They did not show up as promised on Saturday. Tuesday morning, I call the company. I speak to someone, they tell me the car has been picked up, on schedule for delivery Tuesday afternoon. I explain that isn't accurate. He insists, and connects me to the dispatcher. I explain my situation. The dispatcher tells me that they picked up the car. It wasn't until I sent them picture evidence did they contact the truck driver. 72 hours later, and I had to explain their mistake to them. No apology, no customer service.

At this point, I could have pushed my car off a cliff, bought another one cash.....and still have been better off financially. Why do I do this to myself? Because I have wanted this car for more than a decade.
