[IMG][/IMG]

ok so for all you guys with automatic rx8s and you are like me and love your rx8 automatic well this one is for all us automatic guys....i have built a automatic rx8 for chump car enduro racing here are pics and i will list the mods i have done to car.our first race is road atlanta 14hrs and i will be posting our cars progress with each race and what works and what dont.

ok lets start with what has been done to the rx8....well we took the car completely apart everything was taken down to bare nothing.and in chumpcar you dont need side glass rear glass or much of anything so the car is very light even with the cage and seat and everything done it was so light the car sat about 3 1/2 inches higher than stock.here is list of what we changed and done to the car

1. we used a 6-speed diff and carbon driveshaft filled diff with royal purple fluid

2. wrapped exhaust near diff with heat wrap to help keep heat away from diff

3. drained and changed trans fluid with redline full racing fluid added trans cooler

4. gutted stock cat all other exhaust is bone stock due to sound limits

5. removed all intake ssv valves and actuators will lose some bottom end but we dont care as we will be more high range rpms plus less crap to fail during race

6. walbro fuel pump with regulator quick mod done

7. brakes and front control arms changed to 2006 rx8 parts

8. all stainless brake lines hawk pads new rotors racing blue brake fluid

9. cobb accesport with race at map installed

10. ls1 coil pack and msd wires installed

11. rebuilt motor 4-port with higher oil pressure rotary aviation super seals e-shaft jets installed high power stat gears

12. 2 inch lowering springs

That's cool subbing for interest and updates. Also glad to see you use interstate for batteries. I work for them

Did you drain the tranny or flush it, the converter holds a heap of fluid. Why a 4 port Auto ?Are you required to use a transmission blanket ? And the hood prop is a fail. Have fun racing.

If I am not mistaken the auto and manual diff are exactly the same *(Edit)* AT is 4.30, MT is 4.44 not really noticable. Waste of money to buy and swap it. Also mazdatrix sells an aluminum drive shaft that is much cheaper and lighter than the CF one.

Also our diffs chew up on royal purple, so you took your wasted investment and filled it with fluid that will cause premature failure.

Of course we wouldn't expect anything else from a tow hook sticker enthusiasts

ok to answer a few questions i used a 4-port and 4 speed automatic mainy because thats all chumpcar would really let me use without getting a bunch of laps plus parts are alot cheaper to get

yes i drained all fluid and from my reserach the 4 speed is actually better than the 6 in endurance plus cost is less.the hood prop is just something to hold it up every last pound was removed for weight no need to drive around with a hood prop sounds silly but trust me every pound matters and no blanket is required.

and the diffs are not the same and not sure on the fluid never heard that before

RP is bad on the syncros of our manual transmissions. I haven't heard of any problems with the actual gears in the trans or diff.

That sticker is likely used because this is a race car and it is required by the sanctioning organization. Racers don't typically put stickers on their car unless they are required.
Excerpt from the Chumpcar World Series Rules:
3.15.1. Tow hooks need to be EASILY accessible. Consider the job of the safety worker that has to try and find your tow hook when you have a flat front tire, at 2:17am, on the back-straight at Spokane Raceway (or some other unlit and completely dark race track). If an emergency crew can’t find it quickly and easily, we give them permission to wrap the tow strap around your radiator.

Cool,
Nice build. Good luck, and thanks for the deal on the car parts that I did buy from you.
When is the race at Road ATL?
Also, you should PM RX8Club.com - View Profile: slvrstreak he use to autoX a 4 port auto, and should be a great resource.

What's the main reason for you to choose AT over MT the first place?
Just curious what's the main reason/benefit beside less cost?

chumpcar told me i could not use a manual rx8 simple as that......plus to be honest i wanted to kinda build a at rx8 for chumpcar its totally a different way that most would go and i like doing things different plus overall cost is huge because nobody wants at cars and parts they are just about free compared to the 6-speed stuff.

really could not end up using the stock hood prop our hood pins got in the way lol besides id rather have the hood down than up

and to answer a post yes i know mazdatrix makes a aluminum driveshaft but that cost to much the 6-speed diff and cf drifeshaft was pulled from a parts car that cost me zero bucks.

Nice trashy project!
The only thing i would really change are the tow hooks. OE ones may not be big enough.
How about bolting some tow straps? big enough, easier to find and actually lighter

The steering wheel is fugly... please change it! :p

You should change the green paint scheme. Not feeling The U paint job other than that I like it and can't wait to see results

You might want to monitor your diff temperature. You will find it becomes very hot in short order.......

I only mentioned the tow hook because it's not fia compliant. It could end up being useless because the rescue crew's hook is too thick for that tiny hole. Tow straps are much better, lighter etc.

If the VDI is left jammed open there wont be any loss above 6000 (on a 4 port).

to be honest it pulled hard all the way to 7k when shifting the trans it was fine but just left in drive it was only decent.but im sure most drivers will shift the car manually.i ran the car from 0-125mph up to mid 4th gear before i started to run out of road and it had full power i was actually suprised it was that fast.

what my main goal is to have decent pace with great handling i dont give a crap about being the fastest car on track i just want our car to make lap after lap and handle good.the car compared to our old rx7 is 10 times better fealing already.

and sorry im not changing the colors we went with bright colors to spot the car better coming into the pits.trust me having a bland or all same color car is hard to see with all the other cars coming into pit lane at same time.and tow hooks are fine for now

I spent thousands of dollars on my RX7 race cars and the RX8 had better handling straight out of the box.

Subbed, this is going to turn out great I feel. I am sure you will learn a lot from this. Wish I could create a track car, just not practical for a college student. Maybe someday...
