17x9s on 4 speed auto?

Anybody done this? Just wondering if you notice a difference in acceleration and handling from the 18 inch wheels.

Switching from 18 to 17s. No one has done this before. 17x9 Enkei RPF1? INSANITY!

On the serious note, yes it has been done. Quite a few 17 inchers out there. Search

I know it has been done by many with 6-speeds. I was asking if anyone specifically with a 4 speed automatic had done it. The 4-speed automatic has different gear ratios, so it may have a different feel to it.

Instead of "search", how about "read the subject line"?

It shouldn't be a problem. It all depends on what size tires your going to use. You already changed to the 4.777 rear end. Changing tire sizes can fine tune your acceleration and top end. With the AP were you able to eliminate the speed limiter?

if the diameter of the tire is the same but wider, you might feel slower in acceleration cuz the weight of the tire.
also handling is gonna be different with more grip.

No, I don't believe the AP can remove that, unfortunately. From what I understand the 4AT has a 125 mph speed limiter. So far I've only hit 115 at Road America, but I imagine next year (now that the transmission has been rebuilt and isn't slipping so badly on the 2 to 3 shift that I have to lift out of the gas for 2 seconds) I will be hitting in the 120s, so maybe I'll get to find out. Plus I'm hoping to get some instruction my next time up there, so hopefully that will help me pick up some corner exit speed on some of the corners.

I'm thinking about doing the 17x9s to reduce unsprung weight and save money on tire purchases, as I'm hoping to get out to the track a lot more next year.

I just threw this out there now because I was thinking about it. It won't happen until my current summer tires wear out.
