Swapping Rx-7 turbo set up into Rx-8

I'm about to buy my second Rx-8 this week and of course I already have big dreams for it. It's an 04 loaded gt mt with an 07 motor swapped in by Mazda under warentee with 27k miles. I have surched all over the Internet and haven't found any info on this topic, I guess it's not a good sign. I was wondering if I could use the same turbo set up from a factory turbo 13b Rx-7 . My main concern is will the exhaust manifold And intake manifold match up, everything else I can pretty much deal with. I figure it will be drastically cheeper than buying a $8k greedy set up I've seen online. Any input would be great! It's good to be back on the forum.

to answer your main concerns.... no they will not match up, plus most fd guys try to get rid of the stock setup sooooooooooo

I would recommend looking around for other options. The greddy kit should cost half what you have posted

Plenty of people have spent less than $8,000 on the Greddy turbo kit.

Edit: zoom beat me to it.

I was just throwing out a number. I also don't have $4k to spend on a turbo kit. I have fairly little experence with these type of motors. At the risk of getting my head ripped off I won't ask any more questions I'll just continue on with my build alone.

It's not that you'll get your head ripped off, it's that it's physically impossible to do. They use two completely different exhaust port configs.

You're best bet is to read every sticky on the forum and every turbo build thread in the Major Horsepower Upgrade sub-forum.

If you don't even have $4k to spend, you shouldn't even think about boost or a swap. Just enjoy the car as it is. Spend your extra money on driving classes or HPDE's, or just put it away for a rainy day.

Big dreams and low budgets don't go well together.
The REW setup won't fit and having 2 turbos is useless nowadays.
A proper turbo conversion won't cost you less than 7\8k once you dial in the various supporting mods. Add the cost of a new engine to that and there you go.

in other words, you can't even afford to have a turbo, let alone deal with a blown engine ... the choice seems obvious here .....

Listen to others.. Even I have $1300 in my oil cooler set up and about 8grand in a rebuilt engine and extras and I'm not even turboed yet. My thing is do it right the first time or don't do it at all.
Plus it cost to have a built motor done right mazda remand are **** anyway. Dude I have big dreams like you but you need to look into reality. How much are you willing to spend is this going to be daily what are your goals. Just know when doing these projects they tend to go over budget than unexpected..

Yeah and if it was replaced under warranty it's a reman so it's likely to have parts in it from several different years in it.

That's what I don't understand about these cars. They are excillent to drive but are dog slow and for the money you have to put into it to make it fast you could build a kb cobra pushing over 700hp. You can't even spray these motors withought a $3000 investment. Why don't people just swap a turbo rx7 motor you can buy them on eBay for under 2k then you can get the street monster setup or whatever it's called for another 2ish (can't remember what it's called at the moment but a guy in fl does it). It's not a matter of having the money it's that I can't see putting 10k into a car so it can run 12s

The REW engine you can buy from ebay for 2k will cost you at least 6k for a good rebuild, then add the cost of a decent turbo setup. The cost of an ecu and the cost to fit it. 15k isn't often enough.
The rx8 is not a dog slow car, it's the driver that is slow and incapable of driving a momentum car.

Because a car is not defined by it quarter miles times or horsepower. If you wanted a stop light racer you should have bought a GTO or an older Mustang, Camaro, etc.

I don't understand the dip ***** who buy RX-8's and then cry because it's not a "fast" car.

I would argue that strait line, autox, he'll even in reverse a gto is an all around better car. Besides the power difference and ease to mod ls motors have no problem running to 150k miles a feat that I don't think any rx8 has ever done on 1 motor. I'm not trying to start a pissing match, the car is fun to drive I'm just trying to understand all the hype. What am I missing?

The only reason you think the RX-8 is slow is because you've never driven it at its limits. Like others have said, if you wanted a drag car then you should have bought something designed to do just that. Running 12s at the strip was never the '8's original purpose - it was built to a light, agile, driver's car that can zip around mountain passes or trash many other more expensive sports cars at a track.

You're obviously missing the address bar in your browser. This isn't a gto forum.

Are you retarded? There are RX-8s that have 200K on their ORIGINAL engine. You seem to just be interested in straight-line acceleration. Which means you must have done absolutely no research before you bought an RX-8. Congrats, you screwed yourself over and now have an amazing car that you don't appreciate.

thats a silly statement and completely subjective.

What are you missing? You must have passed the GM or Ford dealer signs when you went car shopping
