I always wanted to know how much better the S2 6 speed is both in terms of durability. I just installed a 9k unit in mine.

Saving in progress.
Just curious why'd you guys go with the 20B as opposed to the 13B REW, which seems to be a more common swap option.

More than likely easier to find, parts are easier and cheaper to source and can make roughlythe same 400whp with a decent size single turbo and some porting on the REW.

Either way its nice to see another viable swap option/kit for the 8. Looks like I'll be holding onto my 8 for a long time with all the new resources and info out here, if I ever decide to ditch the renesis.

This seems promising. Nice to see someone out there is providing us with legitimate options.

It's certainly more common, but mostly due to price.

The main thing that would make someone choose this route though has nothing really to do with numbers. Peak power vs peak power doesn't explain anything else. The feel of the two engines would be dramatically different, they would have very different torque and power curves, they would drive very differently, they would sound different, etc...

I would bet that in the end most people that would choose an N/A 20b would do so for these reasons, and not 'cheapest route to X peak power'. It's why I would. Most peak power number guys don't seem to understand that concept though.

latest 20b n/a motor I saw made 312whp 240tq with stock intake manifold and streetport. reliable good power right there... that's what I want for the track. it made over 200tg from 4500rpm to 9krpm. the smooth power band is what I'm after. 20b ftw

I 100% agree. The responsiveness of an NA engine can't be beat....period. When you're on a track you really see it first hand. My FD RX7 was a stock twin setup pushing 313whp with a lot of area under the curve. It was a blast to drive but what sucked on the track was the throttle was tough to modulate properly. You let off a wee bit and the boost bleeds off. So then you stick your foot in it again and a fraction of a second (which seems like FOREVER mid corner) later boost punches you in the brain, breaking the rear wheels loose. NA power is MUCH smoother regarding delivery.

But the benefits don't end there. Think about how much SPACE there will be in the engine bay since you won't need intercooler piping. It will be neat and tidy under the hood. Additionally, with the removal of all the turbo and manifold, it should lead to cooler under hood temps when doing prolonged tracking.

And that sound......Hnngngggggg

Sounds pretty solid, the 3 rotor is a dream engine to me up there with the 13b rew. Sounds like a good way to increase the value in the rx8 market as well, introducing a kit like this. The prices on 8s have dropped significantly for a Series 1.
Attracting loads of uninformed buyers/"car enthusiasts". I could see more people with a bigger budget buying a roller specifically for this swap. And hopefully we will see more 20b 8s around.

I guess what I'm asking is will this kit be something a buyer purchases and then does themselves or will this kit be something installed and tuned by Mazmart.

Yeah I figured it was borderline for a 20B making healthy power but KNEW the AZ6speed would die an instantaneous death haha.
Yes! I'm looking to have the work performed 'in house'.

Paul.

.......now I'm REALLY interested! Part of the barrier to entry for some of us is that there's no guidebook to anything like this. Offering a turnkey solution for those that want a swap of this nature would be cool.

I think both options would be nice. A turn-key solution for some, and a homebrew "kit" for others. But we will see what happens.

Paul knows and does lots more than one could think...

Paul I sent you an email about my opinion on that.
But I think everyone won't loose the weight distribution ad drivability (I think bump steering might be a concern).
Maybe will be fine to know if an upgrade of the braking system is needed.

Bye

P.S. In my opinion 400hp is the minimum for the bucks.

A 20B conversion kit would be very good but the need for a complete 13B Rew conversion kit for LHD&RHD would be the a better choice I think.

They don't realize it will need another $15k minimum for support equipment. It will also be as streetable as any race car i.e. not legally.

What advantages would this have over an LSx swap? Cost? The ability to retain cruise/TC?

The only advantage is the noise is makes.

It will cost similar or more than an LS swap probably, has the same ECU/electronics challenges, makes less power (N/A), etc...
