I know it comes with a sensor, but I want a sensor that will mount cleanly with an NPT fitting. Like this one (example, not sure if it would work or not):

The second one will not work. The first one will, but there's no telling how accurate the temperature reading will be (but if it's off by T degrees, it we'll be off by that much through the range). The same goes for any 10k thermostor.

That particular unit (the STC-1000) is designed to be most accurate with the NTC-MF52AT, but there are others that would be just as accurate.

Let me add to that, any 10k ohm terminator with a 3950 beta value will be at the limit of that unit's accuracy.

The internet. I don't know if anyone that makes them besides US Sensor, but I've never bought from them. Most eBay thermistors come in a little nonthreaded copper tube, you could drill a bolt and solder the tube in place though.

9k, why don't you use a spare maf and just use the IAT side of it, thats what I did.





As you can see it fits in no problem, just have to use some of those skills again, which I know you have plenty of.

Well, it's still a thermistor. It may or may not work depending on it's resistance. If you're really this dedicated to it being low cost you should really try using arduino or another simple dev board to control it rather than the little box controller.

It's not the easiest thing, but it takes a lot of guesswork out of it and you'd have much more freedom with what sensors to use. It shouldn't even be tooooooooo complicated to link it to the canbus.

The maf would work but be huge and a pain to install plus you would need the plug for it.

The gm iat is much smaller and costs about 20 dollars with the plug. Then the 8 dollar voltage switch i showed you and a little box to waterproof it. Or put in in your computer box and run a few wires.

9k, yes the maf IAT could be used with the little $20 control box as you are only using the thermistor wiring of the maf, which is only two wires, same as any thermistor.
I actually use three thermistors, the maf one which I have connected for OBD2 info via HKS camp 2 and displayed on my screen. one on the back of my intercooler which is connected to one of the $20 controllers and another on the back of one of my oil coolers, which is connected to another of the little $20 controllers to turn on a couple of oil cooler fans.
Now I have noticed a difference in what the maf IAT reads and the thermistor on the back of the intercooler reads, but its only about 1-2 degrees C difference. Which I thought would be about right considering the Maf IAT in in direct airflow and the thermistor on the back of the intercooler is getting a reading by direct heat transfer.
