does the end of the shaft have a metal splined insert or does it run through the entire shaft?

The trans end with the slip yoke? I won't need it.

There's no insert. The pipe portion of the driveshaft is all carbon fiber. The yokes are splined (as shown) and it's either pressed into the pipe or the carbon fiber is molded around it. I'm surprised that spline holds like it does. The spline teeth are fairly shallow.
