Question should i put a turbo on my 8?

i'm new.i wanted to put a greddy turbo kit on my 8 before, i asked atkins rotary(a shop just doing ratary engine) and they said if i put a turbo on it, it'll blow off my engine right away...about 3000miles.
can somebody tell me is that ture?if not putting a turbo, is there any supercharger for the 8 now?

I've run over 13k miles with a turbo. My engine has no issues. There's quite a few people with a lot more miles than me too.

just a question mysql, has your turbo kit been exposed to cold weather? like 0-20 degree weather?

I live in Tampa. So I can only wish I had weather that cold. It would really boost my power levels.

atkins is completely wrong.
There's a few great turbos out there:
  • Mazsport Turbo
  • Pettit Supercharger
  • Greddy Turbo (look at Mazdamaniac's thread for an 'upgraded' kit)
  • Esmiril Turbo (sp?)

Where do you live?

ah, i was just asking cause for me, unless i move, when i get a turbo kit it would be exposed to those temps. i know that the repeated heating and cooling of metal can eventually wear it out a lot and cause it to crack/ snap.

it shouldnt be a problem, turbo(actually, the whole car) runs happier when cold. Cuz it cools them down.

Just make sure you warm up properly before you go. thats all

cold air is a lot denser than hot. That's why a hot air balloon has lift. So you can fit more cold air in the engine, and you end up with more horse power.

Well, probably not right away... key thing is "proper" tuning. But they are somewhat right, eventually it will.. just a matter of time...

I have a GReddy turbo kit and I live in Canada where I consistanly get freezing cold weather.

I seem to be getting more boost in the cold without having to touch my boost controller so as long as you can provide it enough fuel you will make more power, safer in the cold weather.

You cant just buy the stock GReddy kit and call it a day. You need alot more supporting mods to make sure everything is safe.

Good luck!

greddy is widely used because it's cheap, not because it's the best. Bang for the buck, greddy ranks up there though.

If I was you, keep a eye on the esmeril turbo development, Greddy is a good kit, but I've been reading that there is a lot of extra stuff needed to support this where as, other kits seemed to be more complete.

greddy needs a few things, the cost isn't a lot, but you would need to do some homework. The flaw with greddy is the turbo. Unless you're happy to stay at 6 psi, the turbo isn't so great.

It seems to me (from reading around this site) that just about every component in the kit needs to be replaced to get a decent setup .........

How many times are you guys going to do this?

I think we need a new thread - and sticky it - then we can just cut and paste it into all the new FI threads.
