a few questions about remote mount turbo

I've been planning on going turbo for awhile now. I've also been reading through everything on the fourm as well as the net. I've looked into top mounts but do not have room to relocate the battery or want to go to a small racing battery. I do not think I can meet my goals with a manifold mount as I do not want to make solid mounts. I've been looking at remote/rear mount but have a few unanwsered questions.

I know the length of the pipe traveling under the car will provide a cooling effect of a intercooler but will a added c mount in the front as not to block the radiator benifitial.

I planned on running a moddified 61trim gt35r turbo up front. How exactly do you size the turbine with the decrease in exhaust tempature at the end of the exhaust stream.

Lastly I would love to use the accessport. I know the rules with the screens and 90 degree elbow but how can you pull it off without running the intake to the front of the car? I believe that running the wires for the maf back that far would delay and mess up the voltage unless they are sized correctly but even then will this work?

I already have a solution to the oil system. Would the coolent for the turbo need a pump also?

Please do not turn this into a bash or debate on efficiency of rear mount as I have seen other fourms do.

Thanks
Josh

If you plan on making any decent power an intercooler will be necessary. the only kits running without an intercooler are at like 5psi with very modest power gains.

Just run blow through and put the MAF right before the throttle body.

I wouldnt think so. Even without alot of flow water will transport the heat pretty well.

Good luck with the build

My question is can you do a blow through with the AP or is the air less turbulated over the run to allow for a reading. Also are screens still needed. Oh and one more question will the bov still need to be recirculated?

You would probably still need the screens to help level the air. Other than that the AP doesnt care where the MAf is, just that it gets consistent readings. I started buying the parts to convert mine to blow through just to test it...but um my car is running fine so I decided to leave well enough alone

Contrary to popular belief, the BOV doesnt need to be recirculated either way. My car is running without recirc on a draw through just dandy. Though blow through would make tuning for the BOV a non issue.

Is the tuning way different for a blow through system? Is it true that a blow through setup is more accurate? I always said if I went FI on this car I would go the Pettit route but I have always wanted to do a rear mount setup as well.

According to MM and the research I've done, it shouldnt be any different.

The only difference would be with a VTA BoV. With draw through you have to make adjustments to the tune to offset the escaping air. With blow through it meters after the BoV and is a non issue.

Interesting. I guess I will have to read up to see how you would get the MAF back there.

I'm thinking that the length of pipe from the rear of the car to the intake manifold will allow more room to have pretty damn laminar flow... thinking it should work well...

by using a blow through you would not need to get the maf to the rear of the car. You just have to make sure you can keep constant readings and good readings this can be done by using the aem setup after the intercooler. I believe im understanding this correctly

Ooooohhhhh, so the MAF is still located near the TB. Hmpf, I will have to look into this some more, I'm not getting a clear picture.

Yes. Look at the sts rear mount for the 350z it will give a basic layout which I plan on using as a rough start. If all goes well I may end up making a few kits up if anyone is interested. I'm just a little curious if bov placement is done before or after the maf while using the Cobb

I looked at it but do they have a pic of where the MAF is?

No they do not but basied off what mawnee said and a blow through set up the maf would be in the stock like location. But a anwser to a bov location in relation to the maf is another question or if it even makes a difference

Before is better. Having the BoV after the maf means you are letting out air that the maf has already measured and added fuel for. This is the root of the Vent to Atmosphere vs Recirc concern.

I guess the only other question is to turbo sizing. I know the turbine must be smaller because of reduced gas tempature but is there a rule to how much smaller

from my vehicle im running a gt35 with .70/.63 im boosting at 0 atmospghere by 2200 rpm and full boost 4200 rpm.

issue i have/having is oiling system and minor ground clearance since my lines are 60mm from the rear to the intake.
i had to be creative and devide it to two 32mm pipes at the oilpan to give more clearance.

for oiling go single chamber and run a small line like 1/8s with a 1mm fitting to the turbo and must have a scavange pump with 3/8s or greater returning.
if the pump cant act as a 1 way valve one will be needed or you will have oil drain down the lines and cause the turbo seal to leak (current issue i face)

i mounted the synapse at the rear of the car to recirc easy it seems to be doing fine.

and the maf extended to the rear with no isses

once i get my build tided up and cleaned up pictures will be posted on my build

for exhaust im running full 3 inch with 1 oem glasspack after the turbo at the rear then 2 other glasspacks where the cat and oem glasspack was.

I'm looking for boost a little sooner somewhere around 3500 to 3800. As far as the oil and water system I pan on running 3/8 stainless tubing and swedgelock fittings that I got from work and restrictors at the turbo. Also I'm using the mazmart oil pressure adapter while running a return pump.

keep in mind that 12 psi with a very high g/s readings (huggles MM for the flow vs psi)
if u plan on runing ar 8-10 psi then you are in your range keep in mind you want flow not psi
and the gt35 will flow

The pressure mod is more for the motor. I forgot to mention that I will do a bypass so the turbo only pulls what it needs
