What's the best subwoofer?

I'm going to add a subwoofer to my 8 in the next few months (have the bose system).

I don't want to spend too much money, but want somethign to add that extra, 'umph'. Some of the custom boxes I've seen on here are really nice, but I don't know how to build one of those... so i was thinking of getting an amplified sub like bazooka or Infinity.

Any suggestions? thanks...

I don't have any personal experience with amplified subs but they don't seem to be very popular on this forum.

As for which sub is the "best", I think that could be argued until the end of time. I think a lot of comes down to personal preference. My suggestion for a GREAT subwoofer is a JL10w6. I've got 2 of them in my car the bass hits like a truck.

I've had all kinds of woofers in my wranger, sport trac, and I always seem to go back to MTX.

In my wrangler I had MTX, sony then MTX again.
In my explorer sport trac I had MTX, jbl, infinity, then MTX again.
Now in my 8, I have 2 10inch MTX woofers and couldnt be more pleased.

Its just a personal taste!

Goodluck!

Yeah, it's all personal taste. I'm biased toward Image Dynamics IDQ's but there are a lot of good choices out there.

I'm actually very happy with the 200W Basslink from Infinity. Easy installation and enough extra bump for me. There is nothing more annoying than someone pulling up next to you in traffic with all that distorted bass sound, so make your decision after some research.

Let me get this straight. You want "the best" subwoofer but don't want to spend a lot of money. I think the subwoofer in Dr. Emmett Brown's lab would be right up your alley.

I too have the 200w Infinity Basslink and love the way it complements the music. If you are looking for impactful bass, look elsewhere. If you are looking to fill out the bottom octave or two of the music and keep the bass in musical balance, then I think you will do fine by the Infinity.

hey guys, I never said 'best'.

"(have the bose system)" - meaning, I currently have the bose system. Just looking to add a little extra bass to it.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Although Davey's comment was a bit uncalled for.. the title of this thread is "what's the best subwoofer"

I assumed that you meant whats the best subwoofer FOR YOU and your needs. But I can understand how someone can miss that assumption.

As for an answer to that question I would have to agree with the fella's on this one.. the Basslink is a nice system but I would also consider a Bazooka Tube .. some people have good results with them as well.

Thumbs up

I have 2 10inch Kicker comp cvrs, no distortion what so ever lots of bass if needed, they are only 56$ a pop and one of the best subs out there. I have an Alpine amp with that and it sounds amazing.

you could go with something like jedi's. i've seen his and it sounds great.
but if you want something alittle more compact and still get good bass
go with an 8" bazooka and a strong amp 1000w should be fine and
you will get what you need, it's what i put in my car.
no it won't sound as good as jedi's but it will give you some thump..

so far the best two brands I have used have been the JL12w7 and the MTX 9500 series super woofer. Both are pricey yes but anything less is exactly that, less power, quality, less hard hitting window shattering bass. I dont deal in low end systems anymore. In my Mustang I have the JL12w7's in the 8 I have the MTX 9500. But with those also comes buying a good amp which is expensive.

The other thing I see being left out is what you listen too, a lot of that will determine what you end up with as some subs do lend themselves more to certain styles of music I've found. If you're not looking to spend a lot than the basslink or a single 10" in a 4080 should be plent okay if you just want a little extra bottom. You can pick up a dual voice coil 10 and a decent amp for a couple hundred bucks, as far as bang for the buck there are some good solid brands out there that don't cost a fortune. Just do your homework, I love my Soundstream equipment and would recommend them to anyobdy, but what works for me might not work for you so just go for what you like. As long as you don't cheese on your connections and you have a decent enclosure, you should be fine for what you want to do.

Good Advice...

In terms of linear throw and least distortion the w7's are an engineering marvel, no they are not just about the JL name, they do have outstanding technology behind them.

But it depends on the type of music you listen to. Most any "decent" sub can get loud and sound okay. so if your not into blowing your budget, type R's, Image dynamics ID's and Kicker Comp VR's are nice.

Diamond Audio D3 subwoofer is phenominal. Clean and loud and can handle 400wrms. Get one off of ebay for 125 perhaps. Second best: Alpine Type R.

so with your 1500 watt load your not having any problems with your charging system? Which amp? Im thinking of building a system with one 1500watt amp and an Orion HCCA 10.2 10" woofer in a 1.5 f3 ported enclosure. is this possible without a new alternator or running dual batteries??

if you want the best advice, go into a specialty retailer, and talk to a knowledgable salesperson or installer.
