FL Volume Too Loud, I am not that old

My 2004 was recently totaled.

I replaced her with a 2004. Aside from re-doing all the things I did to the old one over the last year or so, I have an interesting issue. The radio is incredibly loud. On volume setting 1, I can hear it, but it is soft. On 2, it is almost too loud. 3 is brutal.

The car has a Bose system, the trunk shelf sub says BOSE on it. The head unit does not say BOSE when it is powered on though. I cannot remember what the old one did when it came on. If necessary, I can assemble enough pieces to get the old one wokring. The firmware is 9.55. Interestingly enough, there are 3 ALC levels, where the old one only had on or off. And, it appears there was a sub installed at tone time, there were 2 large ground lugs attached to the rear tower brace in the back (not the best place to ground something, I know).

Any thoughts are appreciated. My bet is someone hosed something somewhere, any clues as to what you think they did would be helpful.

Thanks,

Mike

I turn the ALC off of mine as it will suddenly get loud at times (because rotary). But at 3 it should not be that loud, something is not right.

That was my thinking. On the old one, ALC just kept turning it up. I am really hoping someone says "just push these buttons in this order". Sound is good, just too much of it.

I mean, you could try disconnecting the battery or the head unit itself to see if it resets.

You could possibly have a basic non-bose unit installed. I did a single disk cd player swap from a base unit to a 6 disc cd played but got the raido units mixted up and had the same results you're describing.

Dark, you nailed it.

From the manual, if ALC, not Bose, Bose is called audio pilot or something like that. All the speakers say Bose, as well as the window sticker. it looks like the unit was changed. One more thing to move over.

It's one of the few things I can speak on because of experience It took me a few days to figure it out myself when I messed it up. Do you already have a h/u to swap it out?

Yes, I have the old one from the old car. It is moving up on the priority list. Problem is I have a long as hell list. I now know why parting a car out is considered a ton of work. It is.
