Pioneer Head Unit - lots of background noise

I just installed a Pioneer AppRadio SPH-DA120 using a Metra 95-7510. It's mostly working as intended but I have 2 stubborn issues I'm hoping you can help me with.

1. There is a fairly loud hissing coming from all the speakers when the HU is on and even when the volume is set at 0. It's pretty content except sometimes it goes up in intensity for a few seconds and then back to baseline. Like waves on the beach.

The Metra harness is grounded to one of the screws holding the manual shifter assembly. Same hissing with or without that dedicated ground connection.

It's the same on FM and other types of inputs.

It doesn't change when I unplug the antenna cable.

It doesn't change with engine revving.

Could this have something to do with some bad interaction between the Pioneer and the stock amp? Is the gain from the amp too high? I don't don't how to decrease it.

2. The A/C MODE buttons (middle of the 3 climate controls) works fine but no longer "beeps" when changing settings (neither the central round button nor the other 4 around it). Is the Metra kit not supposed to restore that functionality?

Thanks in advance!

I'm having the exact same issue. I've been reading everything on here about the different types of hissing or whining. But mine is more like yours. I just have this minor white noise all the time. It gets covered by the sound when I turn it up to a reasonable level. But when the volume is at 0, I can hear that noise.

This solved my problem on a previous car (mine was a ground that wasn't really grounded).

Corvette C6 guys had the same issue on replacing their Bose unit. It was:

The stock base amp needs signal from the aftermarket Head Unit's front and rear RCA outputs and not from the speaker wire outputs. The RCA outputs are not amplified like the speaker level outputs are, therefore the stock amp will no longer hum, hiss, or what ever you want to call the constant white noise coming out the speakers.
