No audio

Got into the car, display is showing all the usual stuff. I can alter things like selecting CD or FM etc. Muting indicator comes on when I press Mute on the steering wheel and goes off again when I want it to.

But no sound.

The sludge between my ears that is my memory is hinting that this happened once before but such a long long time ago that I can't remember what the fix weas.

It must be something simple...just can't figure it.

If power is interrupted for some reason, the volume gets set to zero. Make sure it's up to a reasonable level.

Thanks for the quick reply. Power hasn't been obviously interrupted and in any event I cranked the volume up to the max. Just been out to check fuse 11 internal. The door mirrors work so that rules out the audio fuse in the engine compartment.

I had the same thing happen to me. If you have the bose audio, check the main amp that is on the rear deck behind the rear seats. To get my audio to work I had to replace it. You can probably find one cheap in the for sale section from a part out.

It is hard, if not impossible, to check the amp. I tried the relay fix in the door speakers and it didnt work. All sound for your speakers as to pass through the main rear amp, so that is why I decided to try the replacement.

When you say 'rear deck' where exactly do you mean ? In the boot or underneath the seats?

What is the relay fix you refer to? Edit...found the link

Thanks

PS It is a Bose system. All standard as per factory. 2003 model. UK.

Where's this amp located? I downloaded the workshop manual pdf but damned if I can see where it is located. Ones off eBay run at around £50

And from what I see there isn't an easy way to check the amp is OK either.

I think you may have just made my day and enabled me to go to sleep with a smile on my face! Prior to your post I'd Googled removing the amp and it seemed to suggest dismantling half the car!

OK...so I rummaged around underneath what in the UK we call the rear parcel shelf (!!) where the amplifier is and moved the cables and jiggled the plugs and it now works.

So many thanks to all.

Glad it was simple.

It was kind of a pain to take out and replace.

Huh. My father always called it the rear package tray or package shelf. So I just always used that term. Now that I'm a little older, I've realized NOBODY I've ever said that to knows what I'm talking about. NOBODY once has ever heard that term. Guess it's a European thing. lol
