After just getting my rx 8 a few weeks ago I noticed a rattling noise coming from my shifter, usually when I was above 6000rpm or so.

I noticed the sound stopped if I places my hand on the shifter so I came to the conclusion it silver/chrome bit was making the noise, as it was also loose when I touched it.

Being stupid I pulled over and unscrewed the **** breaking the electrical wire.

Now I have three things I need help with.

Can I remove the Silver bit and replace it with a new one ( I noticed you could buy that piece separately online)

And what is the best way to fix the wire a simple soldering job?

Also am I running any risk of the wire catching alight as its just resting inside on the gear boot leather cover?

okay thanks Mazurfer, but how is that done? Im afraid to put something under it like a screwdriver in fear I may damage the shifter again.
