I bought mine on ebay but it took a long time for one to appear that was a good enough price, in fact waiting for the nav hood took longer than everything else put together, building it took a few hours and installing it half a day but i waited maybe half a year for a good price hood on ebay.

remember you want it to have the circuit board on it when you buy it and the power connections. you dont need the wiring loom

I have been thinking about putting a 7" tablet (Nexus 7 2nd Gen) in to my Nav Hood. My question is has anyone widen the front bazel(dremel) to get more screen real estate?

2nd Question is the Arduino + Motor Shield really necessary? The only thing I want to retain is the Open button. As long it opens and close when the ignition is on ACC/ON. I am good, I don't even know why there is a tilt. I have never used it since I have bought the car the very first day.

I put a nexus 7 in my OE nav. hood. I had to open the bezel size a little and I don't think it looks that bad. The arduino is only necessary if your factory PCB board is damaged or doesn't work anymore (like mine)

I havesamsung galaxy tab 2 3100 with sim card slot, so have internet on board
Oem navi hood is 1-2 millimeters smaller.
Alos I place oem electronik pcb to control open,close hood and is no problem with gps sensor, where I read that some users with other tablets have problem to catch gps signal...
So if enyone is on decision with tablet to buy, they need to check where is situated gps senor inside tab...

I am almost done with my tablet install into the stereo, no OEM stereo or aftermarket stereo around. A bit more expensive approach, a lot of extra work, but way more awesome.

I will post a thread of what is included, but there is a lot that I needed to do and a lot of custom work to get this to work how I wanted to look OEM, with JUST the Tablet and no radio behind it.

Is there anyone in Indiana who can just go ahead and do this one for me? I'd live to have the tablet in the car but have no clue how to do it abd there really isn't any walkthroughs for it.

I am from Chicago so can't really help you there. I will write a DIY how to do this for a complete stereo rip out and tablet install. With bluetooth and everything and the true parts you need.

I am still doing the last touches on mine and will post pictures (I only have very limited time to work on it due to a lot of work going on).

2013 Nexus 7, with Timur's Kernel (soon to be based on Android 5.0 when he finishes the port).

Complete list:
* Fully integrated (done)
* Steering Wheel Controls (done)
* Rear-view camera (90%)
* Stock Radio Antenna hook up (40%)
* USB DAC for better quality audio (60%)
* External hookups for USB storage (done)

Also mine as a really nice, custom, yet stock looking, interface.

I also am looking into building voice activated controls. Plus I have one of those mini bluetooth keyboard/mouse combos so people in the back seat can control the tablet.

hi ive installed a nexus 7 in my rx8 , ive also used an arduino to control the motor. im running power to the arduino by splicing into the 12v cigarette lighter and splitting it down to 5v. my question is how did you get the screen to close when turning the key off? is your arduino powered directly from the battery? or have you used a capacitor to keep power on the arduino after pulling the key out?

thanks.

I managed to get the screen to close by splicing into the ACC line behind the radio. There is a wire that goes into the radio that only has power when the key is at the accessories level. I used that as a signal into the arduino, from memory I had to convert that from 12v to 5v.

Also, I've updated my tablet with a Nexus 7! My old Huawei MediaPad died. I've made a new video that shows the steps to take the dash apart and shows some of the inside of the hood. I filmed it in 4K

I'll also update the first post with the link to the new semi-diy video:

I have installed my sat nav hood and connected the tablet to the cigarette lighter for power. My PCB is damaged so I am interested in the arduino just to open/close (tilt?) the screen.

Is there a step by step guide on what I need to do and what I need to purchase etc (with plenty of pictures). I have never attempted this before (even though I work in the IT industry) but always willing to give something a go.

thanks

Noise when charger plugged in

For all those that have added a tablet to their navigation hood;
Has anyone found that when the charger is connected, there is noise over the speakers?
I have tried connecting the tablet to the mp3/iPod audio connection and it works great. When I connect the charger, extra noise comes over the speakers.
I am hoping this can be fixed with a ferrite choke. Has anyone else had this problem?

Ferrite ring might help. I had to use a big ol' ground isolator when I ran a mini itx. Never had to do anything with my tab though.

Has anyone used a nook color for this before? I have one laying around that has been rooted to Android, but I wonder if it would fit inside the Nav hood? I really only want it for Tourque and Navigation.

I had the same problem when I was using aux-in. I bought a 3.5mm ground loop isolator and that cancelled out the noise. But I'm now using bluetooth since the Nexus 7 is too big and doesn't allow the 3.5mm jack to be used and bluetooth is flawless.
