Looking for GPS Ideas

Hey,
I am looking for the following GPS unit:

mp3 playback via SD or internal hard drive
Touch Screen
Turn by Turn Direction
Video Playback (mpeg4) via SD or internal harddrive
tv (this might be a hard find)
and bluetooth for hands free calling
Audio out via Stereo output (3.5mm)

If anyone has suggestions please post.
Thanks
(BTW I know Harmon Kardon makes something like this but I heard the GPS portion of the unit sucks)

I am by no means saying iphone sucks but a couple things about it:

1. - The GPS on the iphone is not true GPS basically it sucks *** - read up about it
2. - The iphone is only 199 but it costs about 100 a month for the minimum plans, gps is 0 a month (this will add up over time)
I only pay about 80 a month for two phones right now so 100 a month for 1 is a 60/month increase which I don't think is reasonable for what it is.

The GPS on the Current iPhone is not true GPS (actually cell tower triangulation). But the just announced 2nd gen iPhone IS true GPS.

But I wouldn't use it as my automotive gps regardless. An upscale Garmin Nuvi (4" diag screen, 1/2" thick) would be my recommendation. 'cept TV, it has all the features you're looking for.

ACTUALLY - If you want to get technical....

The new Iphone has an A-GPS which means "assisted GPS"

Here is a quote from Wikipedia

Conventional GPS has difficulty providing reliable positions in poor signal conditions. For example when surrounded by tall buildings (as a result of multipath), or when the satellite signals are weakened by being indoors or under trees. Some newer receivers are better at handling these situations.

In addition, when first turned on in these conditions, some non-assisted GPS units may not be able to download the almanac and ephemeris information from the GPS satellites, rendering them unable to function until a clear signal can be received continuously for up to one minute.

An A-GPS receiver can address these problems in several ways, using an Assistance Server:

* The Assistance Server can locate the phone roughly by what cell site it is connected to on the cellular network.
* The Assistance Server has a good satellite signal, and lots of computation power, so it can compare fragmentary signals relayed to it by cell phones, with the satellite signal it receives directly, and then inform the cell phone or emergency services of the cell phone's position.
* It can supply orbital data for the GPS satellites to the cell phone, enabling the cell phone to lock to the satellites when it otherwise could not, and autonomously calculate its position.
* By having accurate, surveyed coordinates for the cell site towers, it can have better knowledge of ionospheric conditions and other errors affecting the GPS signal than the cell phone alone, enabling more precise calculation of position.

and to keep this on target - do you want a external GPS or do you want something a little more dedicated like a 2 din stereo with navigation?

I want external.
The video playback is available on Tom Tom's with an external downloadable crack that allows video playback. Tom Tom won't put it on from factory for lawsuit reasons which is lame. None of the GPS manufacturers will.
Right now I'm leaning towards the Tom Tom 930 Traffic

If you are going to drop that kind of cash for a GPS why not get an indash? Bigger display...more features...same price....and you won't have that ugly thing hanging from your windshield

The only in-dash options I am aware of are the double din head unit version and the pop-up screen that goes on the top of the dash that no GPS I could find would support. The in-dash that I was looking at was the Pioneer AVIC-D3 that came with the iPod adapter and Bluetooth compatability for phone integration. It was right around $700 last I looked for the full kit. 7" Wide Nav with MP3 and DVD on top of it made it the best option for what I was looking for.

It's gonna be real tough to find all of that in a portable gps. If you go with an in-dash you have a better chance, but after install (assuming you can't do it?) and the headunit itself your gonna be looking at over $1,000 easily, and thats usually not including all of the extra adapters you will need for ipod/bluetooth. I've got a portable Magellan 4250 with a 4.3 inch ts, bluetooth, voice activation, text to speech, and it does a better job than the one in my 8 for about $500. You would do pretty well with any of the higher end Magellan, TomTom, or Garmin models. Garmin is putting out the best gps right now imo.

I was looking at like $600 for the Avic-D3 with all the bells and whistles. Every now and again you can catch them used here too. But yes...they are a little on the pricey side...but then again you don't have that ugly thing hangin from the glass.

The Garmin 900T retails for like $1200, which is just a retarded amount to pay for a portable GPS. You have to pay a monthly fee to access the La3 TV network..... and.... I may be incorrect about this, but I believe is not compatible in the US at all.

Interesting unit though....

1. It Actually does have True GPS. its called A-GPS Witch mean Assisted GPS, meaning uses real GPS satellites and signals but uses the cell towers to find basic location before it narrows it down with satellites. it just makes it faster to find your locations http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-GPS good info.
2. not trying to sell the iphone but its internet plan is still the cheapest plan for a smartphone(unlimited internet)

Edit I didn't see Wikkedone's post before I posted this. sorry(i'm a noob)
